ATC.DLL CTD

Featured Replies

Fellow simmers:I just want to pass on my observations and a possible fix to the ATC.dll CTD/error message. This is the first time I have encountered this error and it occurred while flying a MS flight plan from KLAX-KSFO in my LevelD767. The weather was bad with 5 mile visibility. I also had RC4 loaded and no FS9 ATC. At the Robie waypoint, FS9 crashed and the error msg indic the ATC.dll was at fault. I fly this route almost daily and have never encountered the error before. I did receive a gaugesound.dll error on Feb 16th which caused a CTD. But I never received this error again even though I continued flying from KLAX-KSFO. I figured it was a fluke. A search today (Feb 25th) on this forum for gaugesound.dll indicated adding "OLDMODULES" then "FSsound.dll=1" in my FS9.cfg would fix this problem. I knew about the FSSound.dll issue but never put the item into my FS9.cfg. I didn't have crashes and saw no reason to add it. Okay, today I added it.... I flew the route again using the same 767, the exact same weather, the same time and day and season. I tried desperately to cause the CTD again by hitting the "S" key and zooming through the different views. No crash. I arrived at KSFO without mishap and an outstanding critique from RC4.Conducting a search on this forum for "ATC.dll" revealed it happens a lot and some simmers have indicated a bad flight plan caused their crash; a duplicate AFCAD caused it; or a missing texture. Most never knew what caused the problem and uninstalled/reinstalled FS9. (UGH!!!) Well, I have flown the KLAX-KSFO many, many times in the past using the MS flight plan and this plan never caused a CTD. I have scanned my FS9 folder for duplicate AFCAD's and have none. Lastly, I recently purchased and installed Peter Wilder's excellent Ground Environment and I also have BEV installed. I figured there might be a missing texture file or something got corrupted in the installation. I decided to fly the KLAX-KSFO flight without making any changes to my scenery files and, as I stated above, I had no problems and landed safely. So I don't think the ATC.dll error is caused by missing textures unless I was just lucky today getting to KSFO without a CTD.Bottom line: It appears the missing FSSound.dll in my FS9.cfg caused by CTD and the ATC.dll error although I have been successfully flying this route numerous times in the past year without a crash and without the FSSound.dll reference in my FS9.cfg. So far, this is all I have done and I'm crossing my fingers that this fixed the CTD.I have a pretty fast, well-tuned system so don't consider this a problem: An Intel P4 w/2 gigs of DDR2 SDRAM; a RADEON X800XT PCIe video card w/256 mgs of RAM; and an Audigy 2 Sound Card.I hope this info helps someone in the future who has a crash which references the ATC.dll error.Ciao,Jim Young

"An Intel P4 w/2 gigs of DDR2 SDRAM"Forgot to add it's an Intel P4 with a 3.6MHz chip. Thanks.Jim Young
