The $1 Yoke and Questions About It

Featured Replies

Hi Folks, Let me tell you about how to get a Gameport Flight Yoke for only $.99 (plus shipping). Look on EBay!! I mean, the CH Yoke may be excellent, but my financial advisor (wife) says that it is not in the budget. Plus, when I sold an item on Ebay it covered the cost of the yoke. Anywho, the yoke I got was a Selectronics PC Flight Yoke. I was only able to play with it for a few minutes after the USPS man dropped it off, since I had to work, but from what I can tell, all axes work correctly, even the throttle and rudder thumbwheels on the back of the handle! The right two buttons work, but not the left two. I assume this is a wiring issue and I plan to open er up and take a lookie. I plan to clean it anyway since it is a little rough when it comes to motion forward and aft. It has 4 suction cups to attach it to the desk, but I will be using clamps. The gameport cable is a little short, around 3 ft., but I needed to move the PC anyways, so no big deal. Although, when I build a set of rudder pedals, I could use a Y-adapter and get some extra length. The yoke also seems to have no springs to center it, and there are no detents, which is great, since I think it adds to the realism. So my question is, who out there in AVSIM land knows anything about this joystick? Also, would using the existing thumbwheel for the rudder, albeit moved to a different location, be possible for me to use in a simple, rudder bar configuration. I could make toe brakes, but we are going for cost effectiveness and it already exists. I can use the throttle on the yoke, but I have a Saitek ST290 I can use for throttle (Thanks FS2004 for multiple joysticks). My idea for the connection for the new rudder would be a simple bar setup using telephone cord for data transfer and an actual RJ11 plug for quick disconnect when I need to move the whole thing out of the way. Plus, I can just get the yoke out of the way and use my joystick for the stick and rudder planes. Here is a picture: http://i12.ebayimg.com/02/i/06/8e/10/0a_1_b.JPG
