Keep losing video hardware acceleration

Featured Replies

I have run into a problem with video hardware acceleration (or lack thereof!) that seems to be specific to fs9, as no other program/game is experiencing issues.I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the frame rate had slowed right down, and on investigation a number of video setting options were unavailable and the video card is not listed on the hardware tab. When I tried to adjust some settings a message came up that hardware acceleration was not available and it was switching to software acceleration. If I re-install fs9 the system "sees" the video card and I get frame rates up to 30 FPS, if immediately run after the installation.Shutting the game down and re-booting, followed by a re-start of fs9 results in the system "losing" the video card, switching to software acceleration, and frame rates drop to 9-14 FPS. This is now with a plain vanilla installation without any add-ons or downloads, as I've backed up all the stuff I've added on to DVD. Don't ask how many aircraft. (Naturally mostly downloaded from Avsim)I've downloaded the latest driver for the video card, an ATI Radeon 9200 128MB, and the latest directx version. The OS is XP and the pc is a 512MB Athlon 2000+ unit. Nothing to get excited about even when new, but it did the job - and still does whenever fs9 is re-loaded.I've also run dxdiag, and 3DMark 2001 diagnostics without any issues showing up.FS2002 still runs at 30 FPS with all manner of junk added and the box for hardware acceleration remains crossed every time I check.I'm getting fed up of having to do a re-install of fs9 every time I want to run fs9 with anything faster than a Wright Flyer!Any suggestions?

Only thought is that the card is failing and that FS, which pushes it harder than most, is the first to show the failure. One thing I would check is that you aren't using a corrupted FS9.cfg. This isn't installed by FS, it's created on startup and it isn't removed by uninstalling. If you open the FS9.cfg you should see only one entry for the video card similar to this:(DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT .0)Mode=1280x1024x32TriLinear=1That's from mine, but obviously yours will have the 9200 card referenced. There should be no more than one of these entries but if you scroll right down you might find more, and this can screw things up.If you do find more than one, delete ALL of them, then reboot the sim - when the menu comes up reselect your display preferences and you should be good to go, all your other settings stay in place.Allcott
