October 9, 200619 yr Hi, I posted this in the General Hardware forum, but no-one seems to go in there much...Just thought I'd write a few lines in praise of my new Antec P180 case. Until now my machine was housed in a cheap and nasty ATX case with very poor airflow and poor manufacturing quality. I had two 80mm fans in there, but they're noisy and not very efficient.I have an Athlon 64 3700+ clocked at a standard 2.2GHz, 2Gb of PC3200 memory, a PowerColor X800 GTO 256Mb cards, an S-ATA drive and a DVD writer. My CPU is cooled by a Zalman ALCU7000 Super Flower cooler, and my mobo (Asus A8N-E) has a Zalman passive cooler on the Northbridge chip.In my previous case, the CPU temp was about 44
October 9, 200619 yr Congratulations with your new case. It is one of the cases on my list for a new rig, together with a coolermaster Stacker. That one is a bit noisier though. There were some problems in the past with the door, where it wouldn't fit properly after a few days. Has that been solved? Can you tell my which powersupply you are using? I am still looking for a good PSU that will fit in this case since you need longer cables because of the location in the bottom of the case. October 9, 200619 yr I'm using a Jeantech 400W PSU, nothing special. It does have good long cables, and I had no problem routing them to the motherboard and drives etc. This PSU has been solid in my mid-range machine, and in 10 months of operation I've never had a blue-screen or any other problem indicating PSU problems.I know some people have had to purchase extensions for the ATX connector to reach from the lower compartment to the mobo, so your mileage may vary.I haven't noticed any problem with the door.Lol, I've just checked out the Coolermaster Stacker. Looks like overkill to me... :)
October 9, 200619 yr Hi Jock,Well, some would consider an P180 overkill also, but you get what you pay for, and the Coolermaster Stacker certainly is roomier than the P180. However, its noisier too, and I don't care about room for a dozen or so harddrives, so I might go for a p180 as well. Silentpcreview.com has a very nice review on the case, with some building hints as well. They argue that the only real issue with the case is the fan duct , which they recommend to leave out. For the rest they speak quite highly of it.Allard. October 9, 200619 yr I just finished building a system with the P180 and like it a lot. Similar to the OP, my prior chassis was designed for everything but low noise. The P180 is very heavy, but does a fair job at retaining fan noise inside the case. I believe Antec has addressed a number of issues that were identified with the chassis when it was first released, including the warping of the door and the useless VGA cooler. Check out the following write-up:http://www.silentpcreview.com/article255-page1.htmlFor power, I went with the SeaSonic S12-600 ATX12V 600W and the cables were more than long enough.
