OK, what causes this?

http://www.geocities.com/[email protected]_fs9.jpgThis is in FS9, see how the detailed terrain textures only extend so far out, then cleanly end, and beyond that are blurrier textures? I've tolerated this for years, but I'm wondering what causes this? My video card is an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 128MB. Is this due to limited video RAM, or is there a graphics setting I have set too low? Or does everyone get this in FS9?I can say that FSX has solved this problem for me. Now I've got the blurry terrain textures from right below me to as far as I can see. :)Mark KuebelerWestWind Airlineswww.flywestwind.com

Its simply a need to turn on EXTENDED TEXTURES, then make use of the fs9.cfg file to change the lines for texture distance and enable anisotropic filtering on the card at a reasonable level (4x and above, 8x is better, 16x if the car can support it and still give reasonable FPS).No need to tolerate this, the answer has been in the Tips and Tweaks forum for years, too!The difference with FSX is your card doesn't have the muscle, but you're not alone, almost no cards do at this point!Allcott

Thanks, I believe I know the tweak you are referring to. I tried it recently with the values mentioned (my default cfg has both values set to 0.0) and I got a CTD the first time I changed views. I'll play around with it some more.Mark KuebelerWestWind Airlineswww.flywestwind.com
