Maybe Coincidence but...

I built myself a new PC in anticipation of FSX. p5WDH Deluxe mobo from Asus, p4 - dual core 3.4 cpu, 2 X 400Gb hdds, 730 watt psu, Creative X-fi sound, 1Gb ocz DDR2 RAM, DVD-rw, DVD-CDRW combi.Worked fine for the first two weeks, then after I installed FSX when it came out I started getting shutdowns, I'd have to turn off the mains to start it up again. Took FSX off but no joy. Then finally it died, completely. I was still getting power so finally figured most likely the mobo had died. Ordered direct replacement mobo, (couldn't wait for RMA turnaround and didn't have box anymore anyway) had also bought new psu in case.Put the new mobo in saturday, fired up, few minor teething issues but by Saturday night sorted it. Come sunday night installed FSX, last night bang, it went again. Is FSX killing my mobo somehow? It seems a heckuva coincidence. Well it ain't going back on my old PC, for one thing I ain't gonna risk it, and for another I'm now out of Activations anyway. Looks like since a lot of my planes are out of activations as well it's over for me, no more FS. Dead PC and I'm loathe to spend anymore time since without FS the power is unnecessary anyhow. Guess it's time to give up on PC's and find a new hobby. Hopefully something a tad less expensive this time.

No, but there are lots of stories of those high-powered Power Suppliers causing problems. That's where I'd start, before I even install another mobo.Allcott

Sounds like a heat fry. Are all your fans running? What is the CPU temp while running FSX? Flight simsput large loads on a puter and they will run much hotter than say when typing a post like this. Check to make sure the cpu temp "throttle down"and or shut down temps are not too low for the cpu.Out of activations? What activations? There is no limit for FSX on the same box, and probably not for upgraded boxes. FSX is not killing your puter, but it's quite possible the heat generated while running itis. That would be the first thing I'd look at anyway.MK
