December 11, 200619 yr Looking for a new monitor I wonder if should go for a widescreen monitor or a normal ! Is FsX made with the widescreen users in mind or will any random circle be pulled and squeezed to a ugly oval in 2D because it is still the 4:3 format that rules in fs ??Jesper.
December 11, 200619 yr Widescreen all the way. The bigger the better and the higher rez your monitor can support the better. The game has native support for it and it looks fantastic. I use the matrox triplehead setup at 3840x1024 and love it. This is a screenshot i took that shows how it looks on my 3 monitors (minus the bezels between the monitors). You get about a 105 degree field of view in fsx with this setup at the .31 camera setting. You get about 120 degrees in fs9 at that setting, but for some reason you can't zoom out as far in fsx as you can in fs9 and the cockpit is a bit larger than it is irl because of this, which limits your FOV. *shrug*http://www.astrodave.net/fsx/fridayharbor1.jpg
December 11, 200619 yr I have a Hans-G Widescreen monitor. For almost all aplications I love the extra space. With FSX I cant seem to get the native 1440x900 view. FSX seems to take some other resolution and "stretch" it. (Instruments oval...) I also can't seem to switch from a partial panel view to full panel. It means I can't set the radio stack, see my GPS, etc.Any help?John
December 12, 200619 yr Sounds like you need a monitor driver to me. If the display driver doesn't know that your monitor is capable of a rez then it won't show up as an available option in windows or in fsx. You might be using a standard monitor driver? Does that rez show up in windows as an option for you? If it does then it should also be available in fsx to choose in your display settings.
December 12, 200619 yr I'm using the monitor with a Sapphire (ATI guts) X1850XT video card. I have the native resolution set at 1440x900 and it works flawlessly with every other program so far.I'm still going to reinstall the driver after removing all the old stuff. Maybe that will help...John
