No Joystick Rudder Control

I use a MS Sidewinder joystick with FS2004. It has suddenly stopped responding to the rudder input. I cannot steer and from spot view the rudder does not move when the joystick is twisted.I have recalibrated - no change.I checked in fsuipc and the numbers under the set buttons respond to the rudder control.I have removed fsuipc from the modules folder - still no change.I have altered the realism settings including and disbling auto rudder - no change.I can use the rudder with the keypad - no problem.If the rudder is fully deflected using the keys and then the rudder control on the joystick is altered in any direction the rudder just snaps back to centered.It must be a setting somewhere that I have inadvertantly changed but WHERE - HELP!!Thanks in advance,Geoff
