Widescreen displays (22") ... Virtualization

Featured Replies

High fellow simmers,I've been out of simming for a couple of years because I lack a recent PC machine. The best I've got here running windows, is a 667 MHz PIII I bought in 1999. The latest sim I had was FS2K2 which I loved.I'm getting ready for buying a new system by this summer with a Intel C2D 6600 cpu and a decent DX10 capable card. I'm waiting for concurrence of the nVidia 8800GTS/GTX series to appear for prices to drop a bit. I'm also waiting for the huge pricedrops Intel has announced for their processors late april.Anyway, I want to build an up to date system capable of running FS X with high detail, not necessarily best. Knowing my last simmiing was in 2003-4, anything new will be great for my eyes.First question I have is: how does FS X perform in 22" wide screen displays, with regard to the (virtual) panel. (I don't even know whether 2D panels still exist by now). I'm planning to get a Samsung 226BW TFT, which has a 2msec response time, good colors, no backlight noise, 1650x1050 resolution. I was just wondering whether the panel would appear stretched out, or whether it would only give me a small field of view above it etc... Or would I see part of the copilots panel? Maybe it would help if someone could sent me such a high resolution (16:10 aspect ratio) to me (if posting here is not possible). That would give me a good idea what to expect in these terms.Another question pertains to virtualization. Has anyone ever tried running FS X in windows XP or vista which is running as a guest operating system within linux (using a recent vmware, or virtualbox?) It would be great if you could share your experiences with me and fellow simmers. Thanks a lot for advice,Davo
