April 11, 200719 yr Hi guys,I'll own up that this post only has a very weak link to FS but I know you lot know your stuff so thought I would ask anyway (and it is to do with aeroplanes)I have a rig that has thus far been 100% dedicated to FSX. The first drive I fitted was:http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=48J2Now this has worked fine to install XP Pro, FSX and some addons. However, I've decided I would like to use Oxford's Practical Flying Training multimedia CD-Rom on the rig.No go, I get the initial splash screen, can install the software but when I select run from disk or run from hardrive, well, nothing happens.I tried out the disk on my old Mesh computer and it works just fine.I then did some research about my DVD drive in the FSX rig, there are many references to the drive having problems with CD-Rom, so I thought fair enough I'll by a cheap DVD Rom and fit that in the rig also and use that:http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NOV-DVD16BWell today the DVD Rom arrived (all reviews I've read say it is fine with CD-Rom) and guess what, same problem. Still won't run the software from the drive or hard drive. I get the splash screen, so it reads the disk, but it won't run the software. It seems neither of the drives have specific drivers from Sony or any updates, so I can't do anything about drivers.I'm guessing, as my old Mesh runs the CD-Rom that the CD-Rom disc must be OK. I checked out audio codecs. The drives in my FSX rig both will play an audio CD.So there you have it, two drives, both will read data CDs, both will play audio CDs, neither will run the CD-Rom.I'm not that into the technical side but I'm guessing here that something is missing from my FSX rig that I have on the Mesh. Any thoughts or suggestions as the CD-Rom annoys my hubby when I use it on the Mesh so I need to go hide in the dining room with my FSX rig to use it!Many thanks,Gemma
