Which Video Card to uprade to

Featured Replies

Hey guys,Quick question. I'm looking at upgrading the my 7800 GT 256mb Video card to the 8800 series. I'm only running FSX. System at the moment is E6600 o/c to 3.2ghz with 4gb of Kingston 667Mhz RAM. I've only got a 19" monitor, so not looking at resolutions above 1280x1024. I'm reading many different reviews on the 8800 GTX, GTS 640mb and GTS 320mb. Am I corrct in understanding A) That the most benifit I'll see from the GTX is being able to run superhigh AA and AF without an FPS hit? :( With FSX I really should be looking at 512Mb or higher? The 320mb GTS is well priced, but I'm reluctant to buy a new card and not really add a heap of memory. Does anybody have any input on which card they have and works well for them? I'm currently running XP but will be changing to Vista in the next couple of weeks or so?Cheers guys,Kael

It is still a tricky question on the basis of a cost/benefit analysis. The higher RAM may well prove to be a factor in the future for DX10, but the price difference is sufficient to make one think very carefully. We still haven't seen a really good benchmark in FSX to show what difference more RAM on the card versus more RAM On the mobo makes in terms of smoothness and fps, but if you want to run very high levels of AA then 512meg or more is the way to go.Allcott
