August 10, 200718 yr I've been researching the possibility of getting an 8800 GTS 640. THe price differences between brands is quite large so I was looking at the cheapest(as far as I know)PNY 8800GTS 640 MB versus the dearest which seems to be the XFX or eVGA brand. The question is: What are the fundamental differences between 2 versions of the one card. From looking at the specs I can't deduce what's better (or worse) for the $. August 10, 200718 yr Go with a EVGA 8800, I've owned two 8800's and both have been EVGA. The reason why I prefer EVGA is because the quality of the video card is top notch, excellent customer service and great support forum, life time warranty and the best part of course is the step up program which you can do within 90 days of your purchase.

August 10, 200718 yr I had a 8800 GTS 320mb which was fine for my 19" monitor but I upgraded to a 22" monitor so I purchased the 8800GTS 640mb.Basically the step up program lets you move up to a better card within 90 days of your purchase (not the day you register your card) and all you pay is the difference. So lets say I purchased my 8800GTS for $400(excluding taxes) and the 8800GTX is $600 through the step up program, I would only pay the difference which would be $200 plus whatever the shipping cost is. You'll have to ship your card to EVGA with the original box and manuals. The thing with the step up program is you can't pick and choice which version of the 8800GTX you want, it's whatever product EVGA has added to the step up list.
August 10, 200718 yr Author Thanks for the info. Mitchell Ward ____________________________________________________ Q9550 (@3.8), 9800GTX, 4G DDR2 1066, W7RC FSX/Acceleration/REX textures/REX weather/MyTrafficX/RC4.3
