November 21, 200718 yr Not the triple we were hoping for, . . . but it's 'bout a double. The 8800GT may appear in a dual chip, single card incarnation in January. The current 8800GT has made the current 8800GTX a difficult sell. I expect this dual GT will be their new $600 Vcard. http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=c...=4299&Itemid=34Also the 8800GT(M) will be available in Laptops . . . well, right now. http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/new...ile-chip-crysisOn the harddrive front, there have been some spirited conversations about the relative merits of a single Raptor vs a 7200 raid. The 7200s have finally grown up. Note the 3 drive 7200 raid actually beats the 3 drive Raptor raid in both access times and Xfer rates, . . . while providing a significant increase in storage capacity and reduced cost. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=4...50410AS&page=33I can confirm this 'cus I'm running a trio-O-7200s right now. The other neat thing is you can run a 3 drive raid 0 AND a 3 drive raid five (or a 2 drive raid 1) on the same 3 physical drives. 750GBs of total storage, 300MB transfer rates and < 6ms access times for < $250. Also, this 300MB/s xfer rate is VeRy close to SATA II's theoretical maximum transfer rate capability of about (375MB/s - 50MB/s for 'headroom' = ) 325MB/s. We are finally fully utilizing a system buss. This has gotta be a first. That dual 88 has gotta be getting close to the PCI-e 1.1 buss maximum capability too. I think we've arrived, at least for a moment.
