V card's and also follow up ?

Featured Replies

First, I want to say thanks for the help so far. This dose not mean the stuff below is what Is what was ment for me to digest, or as a "Take Home Message". However here it is:Part A. : CPU, but it will go to 3.6Ghz. It also has 4 gigs of ram, 500G HD and Vista 64/ultimate.My concern is that I want to be able to achive the followingg:Part B. : Use 2 Vcards ie...(with 4 total out's enableing 4 monitiors in windows mode, like the old FSCOF ((one monitor the panel the second the outside view and in the 3rd the (((FSCOF FSNAV))) of course four monitors for this application...or two in LSI if better in FS10, or that also allow you to use the Matrox set up. Is there a V card config that allows the old fashion windows mode say 4 monitors off of 2 great V-cards with dual outs and that will also support the Matrox (I am not sure if I even will use but would be nice to know tha all the options ((or as much as could be would be open)).Part C.: My hope and question is that with Vista Ult and the 64 bit set up I will be able to use DX 10.Please know I am placing this info as a result of kind help here. Please if you feel I am way below the ED Level needed to ask for help here than I will move on.Last, I am doing my best to order up a "rig" to be as adaptable as can be with the info we have at this point.I appreciate any help.Thank you.Mark.OS:MS Windows XP Professional, Ver 2002 Service Pack 2 Hardware:Intel Pentium® 4 CPU 2.802.84 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM GeForce 7800GS 256 MB w/ DDR3 running a 21/19.6 Sony Flat Screen Tubed Monitorand a,GeForce FX 5200 128MB 17/16 NEC/Mitsubishi Tubed MonitorGeForce FX 5200 128MB NEC/Mitsubishi 18 Flat Panel.

Hello,I wanted to place this request back up top in hopes of some help. If more info is needed please let me know. Thanks for any ideas.Mark.

Mark,I run XP Pro on an X6800 overclocked to 3.4GHz on a 680i MB, 2 x 8800GTX which has run 4 1600x1200 monitors in both FS9 abd FSX. I have also run 4 19" monitors (1280x1024) from a single 8800GTX coupled to a Matrox TH2Go. Can't vouch for Vista and DX10 however as I still use XP.I think your present system will struggle to do what you want butproviding you get a Q6600 processor (or better) clocked at 3GHz+ and 2-3GB of 800Mhz DDR2 RAM (or better) you sould be able to run a 4 monitor setup at Medium/High settings and acceptable FPS with DX9......DX10???? Maybe someone else can help?RegardsJim

JimBelow is copy of a responce from 2 months ago by another.-------------Here's Dell'shttp://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/con...c=DXCWZU1&s=dhsConfigure with the 3.2Ghz CPU, 4 gigs of ram, 500G HD, Vista 64 bit/Ultimate and the 8800GTX. It's $3k.------------- I am only trying to get down to some solid basics (I am using Dells site with the build system area to ease explanationss) I want to know if you had the time to take a look then once I am sure of most basics then I will take specs to a local PC shop and compare the feedback and price qoute and then hope to order a new rig soon..Please be advised I am not trying to "wear out my welcome" I am simply feeling overwhelmed with all this. As most here seem to say I want to get as far into the tech curve as I can afford and as always want to do my best to make sure the way things connect, the motherboard and such will be adaptable in the future, (agian as much as can be done with out going crazy).I hope you (also any other imput is welcome) do not mind me asking for the help. It seems as though you have a handle on this stuff.Thank you Mark.

First, SLI will not help FSX. SLI will help other games, though.Multi monitor choice #1: You can buy a single good Vcard (8800GT(S) at $250) and a Matrox THtG addon hardware box (at ~ $300). With this setup, you can run 4 monitors from a single vcard. The Matrox box will "span" three of the monitors (as if they were one monitor) and therefore span FSX across those 3 monitors. The 4th will be a separate screen that you can run 'whatever.' Cost: (four 19" monitors = $600) + (Vcard/Matrox Cost ~ $600) = $1200.or Choice #2:You can buy 2 Vcards. Buy one good one (8800GT(S) at ~ $250) and a second super-cheap one (8400GS at ~ $30). The primary card will do all the work. The second card only provides additional places to plug in monitors. Plug in 2 monitors to each Vcard for a total of 4 monitors. In this configuration, Vista can "span" across all 4 monitors as if they were a single monitor . . . but You Can NOT Span FSX Across Any of These Monitors. I know, bummer! But cost is only (4 monitors = $600) + (Vcards ~ $300) = $900. There's a clunky workaround where you run a 2D cockpit and detach two or three 2D cockpit view windows and drag them to the other monitors. You then try to line up horizons and other visual cues as best you can. It's a tedious process, at best.Or choice #3. Buy one good Vcard. Then buy a single 19" and a single 42". Span Vista across the 2 monitors. FSX will not span across 2 monitors (without that manual workaround) so run FSX on the 42"er. Cost: 42" at $900 + 19" at $150 + 8800GTS at $250 = $1300. That's what I'm running. FSX/COD/Farcry/et al are amazing on that 42. In the PMDG 744, I get my nose about 6 inches from the screen. The resolution is That good. In a hardcore LOMAC furball dogfight, my head is literally on a swivel. It's a wide screen experience on steroids.

Thanks, I will try to learn more about the work around as to be able to choose from the 3 options.Thank you.Mark.OS:MS Windows XP Professional, Ver 2002 Service Pack 2 Hardware:Intel Pentium® 4 CPU 2.802.84 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM GeForce 7800GS 256 MB w/ DDR3 running a 21/19.6 Sony Flat Screen Tubed Monitorand a,GeForce FX 5200 128MB 17/16 NEC/Mitsubishi Tubed MonitorGeForce FX 5200 128MB NEC/Mitsubishi 18 Flat Panel.
