November 3, 200817 yr Through judicious overspending and the kindness of friends I have a pretty good setup for FSX I think. My computer is a P4EE at 3.5 GHz 875P, 2GB of RAM, and HD3850 512MB AGP Card. I want to learn FSX and get ready for real flying lessons and I have "Microsoft Flight Simulator X For Pilots Real World Training" on the way.For gear I have the following:GF-P8 8-Pushbutton/Indicator Module GF-166 Versatile Radio Panel Module GF-166 Versatile Radio Panel Module GF-MCP Advanced Autopilot Module7-port DLink DUB-7H powered hub.CH ProThrottleCH Pro PedalsCH FighterStickCH Flight Sim YokeWhat should I use in FSX and what should I assign to each control to get started. Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!P.
November 3, 200817 yr You wont be able to run FSX at maxed settings with that rig and still have even remotely acceptaple FPS; XP or Vista?I need to ask this- have you used FSX/FS9 before, or is this completely new for you? The reason I ask is that with the additional hardware youve mentioned, youre going to need some code programming knowledge and definitley a registered copy of FSUIPC to run those modules as you wish them programmed. The CH Products are fairly straight forward, but it gets tricky integrating GF modules into FSX with FSUIPC.Personally, if this is all new to you, Id forget the additional external modules for the moment and get used to flying with the monitor panels first. Once you get your feet wet, then venture into the modules- but thats just my opinion.
November 4, 200817 yr I have to disagree with some of the previous posters comments. Neither programming nor FSUIPC is required for the GoFlight modules in either FS9 or FSX. What you assign to the modules is totally menu driven using the GoFlight configuration software. It comes with enough basic functions to cover the majority of flight controls, avionics and Sim functions. It will all depend on the Airctaft you're learning to fly which functions you assign to the GoFlight units. It is always useful to assign many of Sim menu functions to GF-P8 to save you having to use a mouse (not realistic) or keyboard..simple things like pausing and changing views can make your Sim experience more immersive if they are assigned to buttonsThe GF-MCP is a bit overkill for starting to learn to fly but will be really useful when you progress on to the Boeing 737-400 !!RegardsJim
November 4, 200817 yr The GF-MCP is a bit overkill.....Oops, sorry was getting confused with the GF-MCP PRO.http://www.goflightinc.com/order/images/MCPPro_lg.gif The GF-MCP is a nice little Autopilothttp://www.goflightinc.com/order/images/gfmcp.gifand again much simplifies the heading and height settings, which can be very fiddly with a mouse.Jim
