April 8, 200422 yr What FG Flight model would best model WW2 aircraft? Most had turbo/supercharger engines. The JSBSim docs are off line so I can't tell if these type engines are supported by JSBSim. Is YaSim the only one that supports these type engines?gregoryp
April 8, 200422 yr Currently YASim is the only one that supports these engines, but the addition of turbo/supercharging to JSBSim's engine model is under active development at the moment, and should be available shortly.Cheers - Dave
April 13, 200422 yr Hi, Greg:As David mentioned, the turbocharging is being worked on. Modeling WWII aircraft is important to me; I have a deep historical interest in these aircraft - the P-51D in particular, along with the B-17 and P-38. I hope to provide flight models for these aircraft at some time in the not-too-distant future. There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes with JSBSim that will be directly applicable to modeling new aircraft. We are working at making tools available that ought to make it very quick for us to synthesize detailed aero data, and then tweak that to get proper performance, resulting in very accurate flight characteristics. Perhaps I'll be able to expand in this in a future newsletter ("Back of the Envelope"). See www.jsbsim.org for more info.JonJon S. BerndtCoordinatorJSBSim Projectwww.jsbsim.org

I hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings. All I want to say is that I've been hanging around Av-History for many years. I'm not a developper but I flew almost all of the flight models they ever produced since 1996 or so.I am not a qualified pilot but I think I'm qualified enough to speak about Greg and AvHistory :) If you need any data for the aircrafts you mention, they certainly have it.They've been working on those (and many other) aircrafts for years always upgrading their flight models for MS combat sims using their continuously evolving 714 assembly line process wich is in fact a set of spreadsheets where real life data is entered producing a very accurate to life flight model at the output.ummm and it's all freeware :)Hopefully, this gesture will accomodate everyone. That was my humble intention.Q!
