May 4, 200422 yr OK, i just got this hot-stuff new computer. I heard about FG, and downloaded the windows executable and some scenery files. I love flight simulators, but I really don't want to get into all the technical stuff - just fly it. This may grate some of you, but I don't want to have to compile the program - it's very nice as-is as far as I'm concerned. I've had a lot of fun with it so far - kudos for those who created it. The problem:The first time I tried the program, the sound worked - there was some intro music, and then the sound of the engine. Now when I start the program, the shell screen gives me the error (in the shell window:Warning: S1DSP: Cannot perform this operation while media is still playing. Reset the device, or wait until the data is finished playing. <33>This happens on a clean boot, with no other programs using the sound card. Please excuse me if this is explained elsewhere, but I haven't been able to find an answer. The other functions of the sim seem to work, but no sound... Granted, this is a new system and I'm installing a lot of programs - but I can't figure what is interfering.P.S. specs on the computer, Pentium4 3Ghz, 1 Gig RAM, ATI 9600XT graphics card, OS - Windows 2000.Thanks in advance for you patience with a noobie...

Until recently, only developers were really interested inFlightGear (a sim we can hack!). We're just now coming out of ourshell, as it were, and learning to deal with regular users.> The first time I tried the program, the sound worked [...]> Now when I start the program, the shell screen gives me the error> > Warning: slDSP: Cannot perform this operation while media is still> playing. Curt replaced it with OpenAL about two weeks ago.So your problem, whatever it is, has already been fixed (or at leastreplaced by a different problem). If, that is, you are willing tocompile it yourself. :) Certainly the next version will have the newaudio library. As for the problem itself, I'm not sure. My best guess would be thata driver installation went wrong somewhere. Try going to yourmotherboard (or sound card, if you are using one) vendor's website andmaking sure you have the most recent drivers installed.Andy
May 5, 200422 yr Thanks for the reply Andy,The strange thing is that the first few times I ran the program, the sound worked... Oh, well, it's still fun - I can wait until the next release, since I'm not really a programmer. I am, however, interested in the modelling of the cities - like San Francisco is. I live in Milan, Italy (and have been flying around it) and also work in 3D graphics. I'd love to find out how the building models are inserted into the scenery. Oh dio, here comes that C-word (compile). :-xxrotflmao
May 5, 200422 yr That is great news.We can need more people like you who can do 3d graphics. Here, that documentation might help you:http://www.seedwiki.com/page.cfm?doc=Model...418&wpid=123390http://www.flightgear.org/Docs/fgfs-model-howto.html
May 12, 200422 yr I have had similar problem when using parameter --disable-sound and playing mp3's. I have compiled my exe and it's OK. I can send it to your email.
