I just downloaded the latest fg version. I have windows xp professional. after i pick the plane and airport, I click run ................and this black screen pops up and nothing else happens. Im kinda new to this thing, just found out about flight gear:-(

I will need more information from you. Do you see "MS-DOS" at the top of the "black screen"? If so, did you see any message it? (ex. "failed to gen source", "failed to get OpenGL context", etc.) What is your system specification?

its a black screen like the MS-DOS, but it says C:program filesflightgearbinwin32fgfs.exethe message is kinda big it starts off with "bad property assignment: --prop:"

What did the last few lines of the message say?

This is the whole message.......................................... Bad property assignment: --prop:Config file parse error: C:/Program Files/FlightGear/data/system.fgfsrc '--prop:'Usage: fgfs [ option ... ]General Options: --help, -h Show the most relevant command line options --verbose, -v Show all command line options when combined with --help or -h --fg-root=path Specify the root data path --fg-scenery=path Specify the base scenery path; Defaults to $FG_ROOT/Scenery --language=code Select the language for this session --control=mode Primary control mode (joystick, keyboard, mouse)Aircraft: --aircraft=name Select an aircraft profile as defined by a top level -set.xml --show-aircraft Print a list of the currently available aircraft typesInitial Position and Orientation: --airport=ID Specify starting position relative to an airport --runway=rwy_no Specify starting runway (must also specify an airport) --vor=ID Specify starting position relative to a VOR --ndb=ID Specify starting position relative to an NDB --fix=ID Specify starting position relative to a fixEnvironment Options: --wind=DIR@SPEED Specify wind coming from DIR (degrees) at SPEED (knots) --turbulence=0.0 to 1.0 Specify turbulence from 0.0 (calm) to 1.0 (severe) --ceiling=FT_ASL[:THICKNESS_FT] Create an overcast ceiling, optionally with a specific thickness (defaults to 2000 ft).For a complete list of options use --help --verboseHit a key to continue...

That is FlightGear's man page. Can you post the content of your system.fgfsrc?

Im sorry for being a newbee, but wut is that? is it a file?

I think it is a config file. From the output that you have posted, it should be in C:/Program Files/FlightGear/data

when i open it the system.fgfsrc with notepad this comes up:--fg-root=C:Program FilesFlightGeardata--fg-scenery=C:Program FilesFlightGeardataScenery;C:Program FilesFlightGearscenery--airport-id=02Q--runway=H1--aircraft=p51d--control=keyboard--disable-splash-screen--disable-intro-music--disable-random-objects--disable-panel--disable-sound--disable-hud-3d--disable-specular-highlight--disable-ai-models--enable-fullscreen--prop:--trace-read=--trace-write=

Comment out the last three lines by placing a '#' infront, like this:#--prop:#--trace-read=#--trace-write=If commenting out the lines doesn't work, create a backup of this file, then delete those three lines entirely.

It doesnt work....when i check the system.fgfsrc file, everything is back the way it was. Also the icon that you click on to start up the program, is it supposed to have like a small pic on it? mines just shows like a small blank window.
