ACTUALLY DOWNLOADING

Featured Replies

Hi to all you budding pilots.I recently came across this product http://www.flightgear.org/ through google. When on the site and after clicking on the download button to find the downloads page, the link didnt work. From there at the top of the page it mentioned mirror sites. So yes, you guessed it i went to the mirror page and saw a whole bunch of mirror sites. Great i though, untill i realised that not one single link worked. It is impossible to download flightgear. As well as that each time i clicked on the mirror links (either straight click or right click and save as) they just crashed MSIE.Ok i have contacted them by email, but as you all know it can take days to get a reply by email. Hence my inscription here at these forums.I need to know if anybody knows where i can actually download flightgear because their site is run down and broken. In fact while i think about it does that mean that flightgear is no longer followed up. I mean if its a dieing product then maybe its a waste of time after all.You people should know better than me as ive never tried it.Please help someoneCyboid

Hey Cyboid: I had a similar experience trying to download Flight Gear. The atternate site would not connect up either. I just kept plugging away and after try #8 I got a complete download. Now I'm running win 2K and have updated my video and audio drivers but all I can do is fly the Wright Flyer and porpoise down the tarmack but never get up in the blue. All other aitcraft selections won't even load up but post an error and bombs. Apparently those of us (windows users) without programing skills should seek other entertainment.Vince

In fact, version 0.9.8 is going to come out in these couple of days.I will reflect your grieves to the FlightGear developers.

You can subscribe to the list at www.flightgear.org/mail>Apparently those of us (windows users) without programing>skills should seek other entertainment.>Vince Apparently not.We developers at FlightGear very much want the simulator to be popular in Windows, as well as on other system such as Mac. We have a few non-Linux developers, but we are still very much in a chicken and egg situation: we need more non-Linux developers, but when FlightGear isn't popular enough, we don't get these developers. Thus, problems on other platforms other than Linux often don't get notice, and when users like yourself can't get the simulator working, FlightGear gets negative opinions, which doesn't help in attracting those non-Linux developers.

Thanks people,i didnt mean to come across as negative but when none of the links work its hard to be positive about either a product or a webmasters ability to update or inform people about a site that proclaims to have a good product. If i ran my site (virtual reality based, not carp 360

>OOPS! i have just seen another post where i am asked to join>another mailing list.>>This is definatly a shambles. I have to put my info and join>how many things before getting any form of action. That was me who told you to join the mailing list. This forum isn't the right place to ask questions to begin with. :-roll

Couldn't resiste coming back because i really would like to try it out. But if the community is based on your sort of reactions then im even more against joining.YOU SAID with a sarcastic :-roll > This forum isn't the right place to ask questions to begin with. :-rollTell me bright spark what the hell is that kinda dumbass remark. ##### is the forum for then if its not to post questions and find help. With stupid reactions such as yours, even you are going to screw FlightGears reputation, get a life man and think before you open you mouth.forum isn't the right place to ask questions to begin with. :-rollidiot

Well, answer this first: how often do you see FlightGear developers coming here?In case you don't know, I am the most frequent vistor of this forum among all the developers. I spend my valuable time here to point people like you to the *right* direction, so you will get the help you need. I could have easily spend my valuable time on better things such as working on new 3D Models for FlightGear then dealing with people like you.The mailing list is the easiest way to make those who *can* help you notice your questions. This place isn't.Take my advise, or don't, I don't give!Be grateful! :-roll

Since you can't get to the download page, here it is:http://flightgear.org/Downloads/There is a link on that page which leads you to a Windows download:http://flightgear.org/Downloads/binary.html#windowsRight now, the version on the download page is version 0.9.6. If you wait a couple of days, you can get version 0.9.8.The newer version will probably be a much smaller file, due to the fact that aircrafts in the package are now moved onto a webpage for downloading. When all else fail, use FTP. The directory is: ftp://ftp.flightgear.org/pub/fgfs/Win32I hope this helps.

>When on the site and after clicking on the download button to>find the downloads page, the link didnt work. Get a new Browser!Internet Explorer was allways crappy when downloading from FTP servers.I suggest you switch to Opera or Firefox.http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/If that does not work, then check your firewall settings.BTW: It works here.

I agree with you. I am not into programing. I am surprised that AVSIM would even post their site. I was able to download it and run it. Back in the early 80's I had a Commodore 64 that had a better FS than this thing. It is nice that they want to do something like this but that program is not even close to being ready. Randy

> Back in the early 80's I had a Commodore 64 that had a better FS than this thing. You are lying.> It is nice that they want to do something like this but that program is not even close to being ready. What do you expect? It is NOT a 1.0 release.

>What do you expect?Good question. It will be more helpful if people say what they are expecting, instead of just saying they don't like it.

Really dont know why these dumb #### Window$ users keep complaining all the time - go and shove that MSFSHIT up your asses and kiss GATE$ #### as wellRegards.
