I'm a total newb to flight gear

Featured Replies

kay, so I downloaded the latest version of flight geat for XP 0.9.8. I installed and tried to run it on a P4, 512 MB RAM, and as far as I know, decent video card machine. The simulator did load up, but the play seems to be frame by frame. I've tryed fooling with the frame rate to no avail. So I figured something may have been wrong with the video card or RAM or something. I then tried flight gear on an ATHLON machine with 1G RAM and a GFORCE 5900XT, with all the drivers updated, and faced the same problem. Is there anyone who can tell me how I can fix this?Furthermore, I was thinking of installing a LINUX system to run flight gear. But I really do not know too much about LINUX either. Is this a good idea? Does this problem also occur in the LINUX versions of FG 0.9.8.?Thanks in advance,

Is this a good idea?Yes, most flightgear developers use some kind of UNIX OS, noone is using windows, so if there is a bug in flightgear related to windows only a few people will be able to fix it.Because of that, chanced are higher that flightgear runsin Linux or other Unix OS better than in Windows. > Does this problem also>occur in the LINUX versions of FG 0.9.8.?If the videocard is using software mode of course, this can happen too.But it is a videocard related problem.

Hi, I have a 1.4 GHz Athlon with almost the same configuration, except the videocard: I've an old ATI Radeton 7500, but the sim runs fine. Maybe the opengl drivers or the Anti-Alias.Hope it helps!
