April 21, 200521 yr hi all,I'm a new FG user and a new sim user. i've played around a lot and been learning a lot. I need help though with Instrument landing settings. I'm running 0.9.8 on Mac OS 10.3.8 and works well. I'm just confused about the radio settings. when i go to the ATC menu and enter an airport in frequencies, It lists ATIS and four tower freqs. When I go to Radio settings under the Equipment menu, it has entries for COM1 and COM2 and standby for both and NAV1 and NAV2 and standby for both and ADF. WHich frequencies go where? I understand that VOR is usually 108-112 and OBS and localizer would be 108-126. But in my learning situation, from KSFO to KOAK, none of those ranges are listed when I enter KOAK to get the frequencies. A little help to know what to put where please???:-)
May 7, 200521 yr The FlightGear site recommends http://www.navfltsm.addr.com/ which seems to have a very complete site dedicated to Navigation. So, when you've figured out all this nav stuff you can give me a lesson. I've just started too and I've become so involved with hacking about with new planes and paint jobs etc etc that I generally just fly around like a tourist.(BTW, if you are really really lucky, you can do a double loop around the Golden Gate Bridge with the OV-10 Bronco without plowing into the bridge or doing a submarino into the Bay!)
May 13, 200521 yr I've been using the navfltsim site to learn and it's just what I needed. starting with NDB approaches and going on to VOR. Just plug the freqs into the NAV1 or ADF and follow the needle. Still working on my landings thouhg.. I have found a way to get all the nav freqs for different airports by downloading approach plates at http://www.myairplane.com/databases/approach/index.php . I can usually make an ILS or NDB approach.The only thing I ran into at the navfltsim site is that some of the flights take off from airports that are not in Flightgear, such as KAIY. (at least on the mac version).Just make sure you've downloaded the scenerey.freqs are also available from the terminal with zgrep'ing the Kxxx airport name in the Library/FlightGear/data/navaids/nav.dat.gz directory. 5th column.zgrep KOAK /Users/minottop/Library/FlightGear/data/navaids/nav.dat.gz4 37.700622 -122.212953 4 11190 130.126 IAAZ KOAK 11 LLZ4 37.731758 -122.226175 0 10990 292.247 IOAK KOAK 27R LLZ4 37.724961 -122.249469 6 10870 310.103 IINB KOAK 29 LLZ6 37.718022 -122.237169 2 11190 275129.107 --- KOAK 11 GS6 37.724606 -122.208500 1 10990 290291.117 --- KOAK 27R GS6 37.702508 -122.217931 2 10870 300309.618 --- KOAK 29 GS7 37.698347 -122.123547 0 0 291.117 --- KOAK 27R OM7 37.652572 -122.140300 0 0 309.618 --- KOAK 29 OM8 37.725403 -122.250136 0 0 129.107 --- KOAK 11 MM8 58.737356 -156.777778 0 0 291.117 AK KOAK 27R MM8 37.695708 -122.205606 0 0 309.618 --- KOAK 29 MM9 37.699986 -122.211967 0 0 309.618 --- KOAK 29 IM
