Runtime error

fgrun.exeabnormal program terminationI get this error immediately when I open FlightGear.

To my knowledge, fgrun is not FlightGear itself, but a graphical launcher for FlightGear.

Whatever it is, I can't run FlightGear - any suggestions?

>Whatever it is, I can't run FlightGear - any suggestions? This problem does not seem to be related to FlightGear but rather to fgrun. Also, you should provide more information about your OS, setup, configuration and the way you've installed FlightGear, as well the version that you are using. Also, it would be relevant WHEN exactly fgrun terminates with the error message: do you actually get to see the startup wizard or does it cancel immediatley ?We will only be able to actually help you if you provide sufficient informatiom.Besides, have you tried running FlightGear manually, that is from the command line ?So, open a shell window (Win9x: START->EXECUTE->CMD.EXE) and switch to FlightGear's installation directory in order to runfgfs --fg-root=[PATH TO YOUR BASE PACKAGE]in order to simply verify if your executable will run at all, you can also simply executefgfswithout any environment variables being set and without any command line parameters passed, this should quit with an error message indicating a failed base package check.I would recommend to search this forum and the mailing list archives for "fgrun", "shell", "command line", "start" - there are various threads that describe how to run FlightGear from a shell, if that's acceptable for you. However, depending on how familiar you are with a shell, you might find it more convenient to simply try re-installing FlightGear and fgrun from scratch, as most of the Win32-related programs can ususally be attributed to more or less corrupted installations.Apart from that, there's also the possibility to use any of the superceeded startup wrapper scripts, if you still have the batch wrapper you could also try the file at first, before actually considering to reinstall - it should also be obtainable from CVS.

Ok - I ran fgfs from command line and got "Base package check failed... Found version [none] at: FlightGearPlease upgrade to version: 0.9.8Hit a key to continue..."I just uninstalled, deleted the directory and re-installed before this. I am running Win XP Pro, Athlon XP 2500+ processor, nVidia GeForce 64mb video, 512 mb ram.

But I suppose you'll want to look in some location like C:Program FilesFlightGear...If I remember correctly you can simply use Windows search function to search for "FlightGear", it should spit out all matching files/locations.Also, I seem to remember that you can use the control panel to configure environment variables system wide - just in case that you aren't comfortable dealing with the console (SET FG_ROOT="C:....") or editing your startup files (autoexec.bat ?).Hope this helps
