July 12, 200520 yr I downloaded and installed FlightGear for Windows (using XP SP2). The PDF guide in the help section (seems somewhat outdated) says I'm supposed to get a Cessna 172 on the KFSO airport automatically. I don't, so I pick those options and start FlightGear. I opened the "advanced" dialog too when launching FlightGear and set the control method to "keyboard".Ok, I appear in the end of the runway, and pause the thing to continue reading the guide. The guide speaks mostly about controlling by joystick, which is something that I don't have. I look at the list of keyboard shortcuts in the help but it doesn't mention anywhere how to turn on any lights. I can't even find such controls in the panel so I skip that. Most important at the moment is to find out how to get control of the aircraft :)The guide thinks I'm parked somewhere and instructs how to taxi to the runway. Well, I already am on the runway but I want to drive back and forth a little to test the controls. Unfortunately, as I said, the guide is focused on joystick controlling so I look in the list of keyboard shortcuts again.Shift+B controls the brakes and it works. But when I release the brakes, the plane just starts spinning around counter-clockwise. 9 / 3 are supposed to control throttle, but nothing happens. 4 / 6 move the horizontal indicator thing right above the "BRAKE" sign, but it doesn't affect the spinning. Just Shift+B stops it, and starts it again. So, I wonder 1) how to get the keyboard shortcuts to work like they're supposed and 2) where to find a guide that provides any useful information to me. I checked the FAQ which is focused mostly on installation / startup issues - there are two external links; one to a plane navigation guide which tells nothing at all to a novice like me, and another link which returns a 404.Thank you in advance. :]
July 13, 200520 yr Use Page Up/Page Down keys to control the throttle. As to controlling using the key pad, please make sure Num Lock is enabled.http://flightgear.org/Docs/InstallGuide/ge...ml#x10-590005.2The nose landing gear is tied to the rudder. So, on the key pad, use the 0/Enter key to change the direction of the landing gear and stop the spinning. The c172 requires constant rudder adjustment during take offs and landings. I suggest you use the mouse to control the elevators and ailerons, and use the keypad to control the rudder.
