No dvd help The World Purchase

Featured Replies

Hi. I'm writing this here because there are no contact information on flightgear.com. I think thats a pitty as i have questions about their products. (strike one)I have no DVD palyer in my computer. I want to purchase the world. Why is not the world offered on CD rom? I know it would take a lot of cd roms to fill the world but really guys.. a blank CD can be had for under a dollar these days. Surely even if it took 10 or 15 cd roms to fill the world, it would be more cost effective for the end user, and better for the flight gear program. I think one thing that halts sales of their world package is that it is not offered on CD rom, only dvd. (strike two)Thre arent that many poeple out there yet with DVD's in thier Pc's!! Do i have any other choice? If it means for me to get flight gear, to go out and spend 200 bucks on a dvd rom for my computer.. then the folks at flight gear are:NUTZ just NUTZ. (strike 3? Thats up to the folks at Flight Gear who respond to this post)

Before the 0.9.8 version, the world took allready a gooddozen CDs, but with last scenery build this could make like20 CDs.>Thre arent that many poeple out there yet with DVD's in thier>Pc's!!>You must be kidding...> Do i have any other choice?>> If it means for me to get flight gear, to go out and spend>200 bucks on a dvd rom for my computer.. then the folks at>flight gear are:>NUTZ just NUTZ. >Hi.>> I'm writing this here because there are no contact>information on flightgear.com. I think thats a pitty as i have>questions about their products. (strike one)1) It's www.flightgear.ORG2) Contact information can be found on pretty much any page3) If you have a question about FlightGear, the most likely way to get a response is via the mailing list4) FlightGear is an opensource project, as such there is not really any sort of "product">I have no DVD palyer in my computer. I want to purchase the>world. Why is not the world offered on CD rom? I am not really sure whether that's true, on the other hand you can always get ALL the scenery for free by simply downloading it, thus it would be up to you, which type of media you chose to save the data.>I know it would take a lot of cd roms to fill the world but>really guys.. a blank CD can be had for under a dollar these>days. I think one thing that>halts sales of their world package is that it is not offered>on CD rom, only dvd. (strike two)Well, I don't think that this is really any significant factor: as I said, anybody can easily get ALL the data even without purchasing anything at all, simply by downloading the stuff.>Thre arent that many poeple out there yet with DVD's in thier>Pc's!!I agree, you must be kidding, on the other hand this may probably depend on your location, while your argument would probably not be true for most of the US and Europe, it may indeed be true for some locations such as Africa, Asia etc.> Do i have any other choice?Yes, DOWNLOADING the scenery from the web.> If it means for me to get flight gear, to go out and spend>200 bucks on a dvd rom for my computer.. Again, I am not sure where you are, so "bucks" is kind of imprecise, if you are referring to USD or EUR, this is certainly way above the actual figures for PC (E)-IDE DVD drives (you said you would be using a PC?), you can easily get a cheap IDE DVD (ROM) drive for less than 20-30 USD/EUR bucks. If you want to get a DVD drive with writing capabilities you can get devices for as low as 30-45 USD in most of the US and Europe. Add some extra money if you want to have a hardware encoder/decoder card, too.On the other hand, nobody said that you indeed have to get a DVD drive, as you were shown already, there are other ways to get the FlightGear scenery and terrain data.> then the folks at flight gear are:>NUTZ just NUTZ. (strike 3? Thats up to the folks at Flight>Gear who respond to this post)1) This forum isn't officially supported by the FlightGear developers2) Thus, you are unlikely to get any official response from the development team3) Your tone isn't entirely appropriate if you want people to help youAs an aside, you also need to take into account the amount of works that's caused by publishing the data on CD-ROMs vs. publishing them on DVDs, only. FlightGear is an opensource project, as such it is also entirely non-commercial, certainly not in any way market-oriented, so you really need to think about your attitude: it simply isn't appropriate for something that's generally given away for free, if you want to be entitled to such an attitude, you will have to actually pay for a product, even then you are unlikely to really make anybody listen to you if you keep communicating in this tone.
