NO SCENERY

Featured Replies

Hi, after having to re-install my OS I'm not able to see any scenery. Following are the remedies I've tried:Video Card is OK becuase FG worked before the re-install of OS.Directories are OK...Same Directories as before...Joystick could not be causing prob. because I'm not using one.I'm using FG ver. .99 as I was before the re-install of OS.When loading FG with Cessna 172 2-d Panel all I can see is the 2-d Panel and nothing else. Sound comes on ok.....I can hear engine...everything is normal accept I can't see scenery. Keyboard bindings seem ok...I tried SHIFT + ARROW keys and I can look to my left and behind etc. but I see nothing.....Quite exasperating to say the least since I've had not trouble in the past with FG. Thanking anyone in advance who can help me out of this mess. Forgot to mention that I updated my driver for the ATI RADEON 7000 series to make sure that wasn't the fault.Regards,Bert

Hi,you did not tell us important facts that are necessary to help you.Assuming thata) I see "nothing" means that you see *water*:( you are on a Windows OSc) you are using FGRun ("FlightGear Wizard")d) you have not changed your FlightGear install*then* you have problems with the scenery pathes.Go to the page 1 of FGRun and reselect the scenery path.IF the above ist *not* true, tell us more about your specs (hardware, software, OS ..)RegardsGeorg EDDW

Hello, thank you for your reply.a)I don't see water..I'm just seeing sky I think. When changing to external view I see the same. The only thing that I can see is the panel in the cockpit view. I will try to 'Print Screen' so that I can attach a photo later.:( I am running Windows XP, using an ATI Radeon 7000c)Yes, I'm running FlightGear Wizard. d)I did a full NEW FG install after re-loading my operating system.Since, I ran the FlightGear Wizard all directories should be correct.Should they not?Basicaly my system is exactly the same as when FlightGear was working properly except that I re-installed Windows XP again. All hardware is the same. That is what is making it so hard to understand. I must be missing something very basic...just don't know what. I mean everything in the Sim is working accept NO SCENERY. When I installed FG I installed in defaul folder...when I look at the folder thru Windows Explorer I can see in FlightGear>Data>Scenery two folders named 'Objects' & Terrain'. Looks like everything is in place. If you need further info I will be glad to provide it. Thank you again for your help.Regards,Bert>Hi,>you did not tell us important facts that are necessary to help>you.>>Assuming that>>a) I see "nothing" means that you see *water*>:( you are on a Windows OS>c) you are using FGRun ("FlightGear Wizard")>d) you have not changed your FlightGear install>>*then* you have problems with the scenery pathes.>>Go to the page 1 of FGRun and reselect the scenery path.>>IF the above ist *not* true, tell us more about your specs>(hardware, software, OS ..)>>Regards>Georg EDDW

Hello, here are a couple of screen captures...maybe this will help you to determine what is wrong. I hope so anyway. Files are now uploaded under user files....named Cockpit View & External View.Regards,Bert

Hmm,this sounds really strange for me, I don't know whether I really can help you.One better way could be to subscribe to the FlightGear developers mailing list and send your problem there with detailled information about your hard- and software, etc. Before you do that, try one very simple thing, start FG from a batch-file (yes, yes real old DOS time comes back). But very simple to do1. create a Textfile with the simple Editor (not with WORD or OpenOffice or stuff like this - then you'll get format code into the text)2. copy the text I give you later into this file, but keep attention that all is in *one* line without line-breaks!This is *important*, make sure all words are in *one* textline!!!3. safe the text 4. rename the file from *.txt to *.bat5. click and run :-)So there is no influence of the starter prg (FlightGearWizard)!First file: (ie RunFG01.bat)(YourFG)binwin32fgfs.exe --fg-scenery=(YourFG)datascenery --fg-root=(YourFG)data --enable-fullscreen --bpp=24 Looks for my FG 0.9.9 install like:H:FlightGear99binwin32fgfs.exe --fg-scenery=H:FlightGear99datascenery --fg-root=H:FlightGear99data --enable-fullscreen --bpp=24 Second file: (ie RunFG02.bat)(YourFG)binwin32fgfs.exe --fg-scenery=(YourFG)datascenery --fg-root=(YourFG)data --disable-skyblend --disable-specular-highlight --disable-enhanced-lighting --disable-clouds --disable-clouds3d --disable-horizon-effect --disable-sound --disable-distance-attenuation --shading-flatThird file: (ie RunFG03.bat)(YourFG)binwin32fgfs.exe --fg-scenery=(YourFG)datascenery --fg-root=(YourFG)data --bpp=24 --geometry=1024x768Test it, does not hurt (might also not work, but free of charge :-) )RegardsGeorg EDDW

>Hello, here are a couple of screen captures...maybe this will>help you to determine what is wrong. I hope so anyway. Files>are now uploaded under user files....named Cockpit View &>External View. This looks very much related to OpenGL problems, thus it would be relevant to see what sort of startup parameters you are using and if there is anything that you modified since the latest install. Likewise, you may also want to try various different rendering related settings. Also, are there ANY errors or warnings during startup in the console window?

Thank you for your reply......i'm not sure just what settings to change..My Google Earth program using OpenGL is working fine so it seems the driver is ok.....what settings should I try? I've even tried FG .98 and it won't work either..I'm pretty sure it is my video card...but i swear it worked before the re-install of OS...?? I'm about to give up I think.Regards, Bert

Thanks for your time & effort. I'm sure itis not a Directory problem. I don't know what else to do....I will wait for the next update to the program & try that.Regards,Bert

>Thanks for your time & effort. I'm sure itis not a Directory>problem. I don't know what else to do....I will wait for the>next update to the program & try that. Not to sound discouraging, but such problems are unlikely to get addressed automatically if nobody provides relevant debug information.Obviously, this seems to be very specific to your OpenGL chipset and maybe its drivers. Thus, the standard recommendation would indeed simply be to upgrade your graphics hardware to any current nvidia/ati card with at least 128MB of dedicated RAM.So, if you are really interested in running FlightGear and in enabling people to troubleshoot your problem so that it can be fixed, you should definitely attempt to provide the information you are asked for and to follow the steps we suggest. Otherwise, it will be next to impossible for us to tell what sort of issues may be the cause for your problems. It is really not unlikely that you may eventually get FlightGear to work for you, but you may indeed have to disable various rendering related things, some of which may currently only be disabled by modifying the source code. That is probably why the standard recommendtion is to switch graphics hardware and see if the problems persist.

Hello, to be honest with you I don't know specifically what info you are asking for. I can say for certainty that I receive no error msgs.I have indeed updated my driver for ATI Radeon 7000 series Video Card. As for Startup parameters, I'm using the default settings. What start-up parameters specifically may I need to adjust. I would like very much to be able to run FGFS with my current hardware profile. I would like to re-emphisize that the ATI Radeo 7000 did run the program without a hitch before the re-install of my OS. Any more info you need please ask but be specific as I'm by no means an expert understanding hardware related issues. I do see while I'm using the FG wizard that there are some adjustments I can make under the 'ADVANCE' tab but I don't know which parameters might rectify the prob. I hope I have been clear enough. Thank You.Regards, Bert

At first we will need to know what sort of startup parameters you are using in order to come up with ideas about how to attempt to rectify your problems.Apart from that, you should still consider discussing your specific problems on the FlightGear developer's mailing list, this is the only place where you can truly assume that developers are likely to notice your problems. IF you do post on the devel list, make sure to provide all the information that we asked you for already.

BINGO!!!! Thanks much for your help...I got it running now...I'm now not sure WHY?? I changed several parameters under FEATURES & RENDERING using the Wizard....Under FEATURES I removed 'spash screen';HUD 3-d....Under rendering I only changed shading to flat...not sure which was causing my prob. but I highly suspect it was the 3-d HUD!!! I just remembered I also changed DEBUGGING...I changed Log Level from something (don't remember) to info...maybe that caused my prob. Now I thing this was the culprit because I never used the HUD display.....anyway, I'm a happy camper now. Thanks to you and another helper. Regards,Bert
