March 15, 200620 yr Anyone know when the new FG version willbe available. I notice that nothing hasbeen posted in various FG forums since Feb. 26.Why the inactivity?Tom
March 15, 200620 yr Hi TomI really would not say "inactivity" as you can have a new FlightGear version nearly every day when compiling the CVS.But this is the development branch where people accept that something does not work ..For a stable release you need many fixes and that needs time. But when I understood the discussion right on the developers mailing list it should be possible to have 0.9.10 at the end(?) of April, this year of course. The other question is when a precompiled version will be available for *your* O/S (whatever it is).RegardsGeorg EDDW
March 16, 200620 yr Hi Georg:Thanks for your knowledgeable response. Thereason I asked is that one of the insidersmentioned that 0.9.10 was forthcoming at aboutthis time. I'll just have to wait for the compiled versionfor Windows XP.TomP.S. I'm anxious for the new one since it is purported to fix the problem in regard to use of the Google moving map implementation.
March 16, 200620 yr Hi Tom,Windows precompiled versions are always out very fast after the release date .. hopefully also for this upcoming release :-)"Google moving map implementation" - do you mean multiplayer?I thought it was already possible with 0.9.9 - but not sure about that.Maybe someone with 0.9.9 reading this can answer better.RegardsGeorg
March 16, 200620 yr >Hi Georg:>>Thanks for your knowledgeable response. The>reason I asked is that one of the insiders>mentioned that 0.9.10 was forthcoming at about>this time.Well, actually the project's coordinator indicated merely strong interest in getting the next release out within the next 8 weeks, mainly due to spare time constraints. This does not necessarily mean that there will actually be such a release, though.>P.S. I'm anxious for the new one since it is purported> to fix the problem in regard to use of the Google> moving map implementation.Moving map functionality is currently provided by Atlas, which does NOT use Google Maps, however there is also the FGMap available at pigeond.net that is supposed to be used with multiplayer clients, this is in no affected by any of the releases but it does rely on google maps. So, it's not clear to what sort of problem you are referring? Are you referring to Atlas: http://atlas.sf.net or to http://pigeond.net/flightgear/fg_server_map.html ?
March 16, 200620 yr >I'll just have to wait for the compiled version>for Windows XP.You can try development snapshots put here :ftp://ftp.ihg.uni-duisburg.de/FlightGear/Win32

March 16, 200620 yr Well, you don't seem to have specified an outgoing port? Not sure if it's supposed to work without it.Have you tried following the multiplayer howto, available via the wiki?
