Now I am getting the following error.Error reading properties:failed to open fileat c:/documents and settings/doug/application data/flightgear.org/autosave.xml(reported by simgear xml parser)My system is2.7 ghz celeron1 gig of ramGeforce 6200 256mbThanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.
July 13, 200619 yr I decided to just buy Microsoft Flight Sim 2004. Great program! No problems running it and tons of great resources on the net.
July 16, 200619 yr >I decided to just buy Microsoft Flight Sim 2004. Great>program! No problems running it and tons of great resources>on the net.congratulations for finding something that doesn't require a brain to run ;-)no seriously, a current version of MSFS (or X-Plane) certainly beats FlightGear in many aspects, however MSFS 2004 was sort of "broken" and thus you hopefully didn't pay much more than $5US for it?
July 22, 200619 yr I get the same error, but I was not able to get the program started. In the dos window, I get-Error reading properties:failed to open fileat c:/documents and settings/gator/application data/flightgear.org/autosave.xml(reported by simgear xml parser)I am running windows xp pro, amd 2800+ processorNvidia Geforce 6800 GT vid card1 gig system ram generic joystick, soundblaster sound card. Norton AVI have tried with many different aircraft, sceenes (including KFSO) and it seems to load fine until it gets to the "Generating Sky Elements" at the bottom, then it hangs up. Have to manually shut the program window down to stop it. I have tried different settings in the startup, nothing works. uninstalled and reinstalled, same result. installed from same file on another computer, it ran fine, but can not use that one for playing. version 0.9.10any ideas what the heck could be the problem?

This should show us WHERE EXACTLYS FlightGear aborts, that is at what point in initialization.Likewise, you said you tried "different settings", however without telling us exactly what you tried already, it's hard for us to follow the steps you've already taken. Also, it would be a good idea to first ensure that other OpenGL software, as well as OpenAL software works properly on your system, in order to rule out OpenGL/OpenAL related issues (personally, I would first disable/uncheck all advanced rendering related settings and see if that makes a difference).Basically, you are probably well-advised to check out the troubleshooting section over at http://wiki.flightgear.org in order to get an impression about what sort of information is usually required to be able to provide support.
July 23, 200619 yr Thanks for the reply, at least knowing the autosave doesnt have anything to do with it is helpful. I'll try to get as much of the settings as I know how, but I am using the the shortcut to start the program, and even trying from the default settings from a clean install. It doesnt ever give an error and abort, it just hangs up and quits responding. does not go anywhere even after about an hour. It peggs the processor to 100% and keeps chugging. I turned the logging on to debug, and it just rolls until it gets to -----------initializing cloud layerstexture = texture = texture = texture = texture = texture = -------------If I used bulk logging on, it just rolls and never stops. tons of numbers flashing.Using J-3 Piper, KSFO, default runway, tried default settings for skys, tried turing everything I can find off, no change.I am a newbie, so I am not sure how to report or change some of the commands, but I found these on the startup wizzardC:Program FilesFlightGearbinWin32fgfs.exe --fg-root=C:Program FilesFlightGeardata --fg-scenery=C:Program FilesFlightGeardataScenery;C:Program FilesFlightGearscenery --airport-id=KSFO --runway=01L --aircraft=j3cub --control=joystick --disable-random-objects --disable-ai-models --timeofday=noon --log-level=debug---------I have also tried to go in and change settings (using the wizard advanced properties) on the clouds and layers, no change on the result. How do I check the opengl settings? I know I have current drivers for the card, but dont know anything about the opengl.I'll attach a screenshot showing where the program hangs. Thanks guys, I know I am a newbie, but if I cant get it to run, it will be hard to get up to speed with everyone else!
