Scenario question

Featured Replies

Hello,I have problem with installing new scenery, FGFS 0.9.10 on a WinXP machine.Looking at http://fgfsdb.stockill.org/models.php?offset=150 , I found , that Orly-France scenario should be beautifull, and decided to install it.I've downloaded ftp://ftp.flightgear.org/pub/fgfs/Scenery-0.9.10/e000n40.tgz, then gunzipped it to $FG_ROOTscenery directory. Subdirectories Terrain and Objects was created. Then I've downloaded http://fgfsdb.stockill.org/download/e000n40.tgz , and gunzipped it to $FG_ROOTsceneryObjects . I found, that some objects from first file were overwritten. Then I start FlightGear, select Orly-France airport, and haven't seen any beautifull buildings like there: http://fgfsdb.stockill.org/models.php?offset=190.Moreover, I see very strange constructions in the centre of some runways (Red-White cubes with something like antennas near it), that made me hard to takeoff :)But, flying around, I found, that I see some buildings, but only some. I haven't found Orly-specific terminals and other constructions. What do I do wrong?

Well, it sounds like you did everything right. Maybe you could try downloading all of the global objects and shared objects from the scenery database? That shouldn't make a difference, but I can't see what else might be causing your problem.Of course, I might be overlooking something obvious, so I'll keep thinking about it.

So, I've deleted installed scenario, and re-installed it. Nw everything seems to be OK (Seems like previouce time I've decompressed something to wrong path), except there isn't AI objects. Is there packs etc to see buses moving, people walking, etc - something like here http://www.avsim.ru/file_images/39/img7129_1.jpg ?

>except there isn't AI objects. depends-please specify "AI objects"?>Is there packs etc to see buses moving, people>walking, etc - something like here>http://www.avsim.ru/file_images/39/img7129_1.jpg ?Depends again, i.e. what exactly do you want to see?if you are coming from an X-Plane or even MSFS background, then you'll be disappointed:Because as far I know, nothing like this exists currently for FlightGear, mainly because the required infrastructure to make such things really feasible is currently not yet implemented in FlightGear (i.e. moving buses (or vehicles in general) would require routing access to the vmap* data layers, which are currently only used for building the scenery tiles STATICALLY). So, while the corresponding data is used to create realistically looking night scenery, the data currently isn't really exposed to the simulator in order to enable users to animate 3D objects, i.e. traffic properly. The closest thing to this is the AI traffic, where parking positions and taxiways are planned to be honored accordingly, so that AI aircraft are actually routing-aware.So, for now please don't expect any fancy "AI objects", rather the most advanced stuff right now are usually simple animated 3D objects (i.e windmills/windsocks), whose animations may be controlled by Nasal scripts.Nevertheless, depending on the AI-features you'd like to see implemented, it should be possible to simulate some objects (vehicles, people) by using routes defined statically in XML files (i.e. check out the nimitz scenario, which uses this approach). While this will not be as powerful, appealing or convincing as the MSFS stuff, it can also enrich the scenery somewhat.

I coming from nowhere; FlightGear is first realistic simulator I use beacuse of it availability and because I prefer free/opensource software (Even I don't like GPL license, Berkeley copyright seems to be far more "free" then GPL).The strange thing is that I can't find "working example", or big "sample" configs for it (Just to place it into correct directory and it works somehow: crafts flying, buses running, just to make airports not empy or filled by Cessna's)...:)
