October 26, 200619 yr Being new to FG, is it possible to import downloaded aircraft from Fly! into filghtgear. Specificly, I would like to try the AS-365N2 Dauphin. How is this done?
October 26, 200619 yr There may be people here who are familiar with the Fly! file formats, or there may not. Can you help us out by telling us what these formats are?
October 27, 200619 yr The download consists of 4 files. .pod, .dll, .pdf and a readme file. I am not familiar with the .pod extension or how to convert it. The documentation in the .pdf file states to copy the .pod and .dll files to the aircraft direcory and they are ready to use. FG does not recoginize the .pod file as it sits in the aircraft directory.
October 27, 200619 yr OK, it looks like the *.pod file is the model. I'm not familiar with this 3D format. Do you know if there are any conversion utilities for this format? Is it a proprietary format?
October 28, 200619 yr I have seen a conversion that would make it an HTML file, but I didn't think that would work for FG. The file was listed a Freeware, so I would assume modification is permittted.
October 29, 200619 yr Hi,there were informations in the FLY!II forum some time ago that a im-/exporter for some FLY! II 3d-structures is in Work for Blender. The FLY! people are interested in using this wonderful tool. This would enable you to make a FlightGear 3d-model (*.ac) from FLY! II objects or aircrafts BUT ONLY FOR YOUR OWN USE!!! as not only the TRI work but all the other stuff from 3rd party authors is COPYPROTECTED!!!!As the FLY! legacy project is said to make good progress and a lot of people of ROTW or other creators are working with this uncommercial FLY! II clone I would doubt that they make their work GNU.And you had to create and redo all that really difficult stuff yourself as you cannont convert the flightmodel data into FlightGear. As I was a Betatester for the Dauphin helicopter and worked together with one of the creators Jan Herigstadt of Norway I know that we need a lot of time (maybe years) until we have got the same functionality which this helicopter has (refined systems simulation), especially as Jan is working as a technician with the Dauphin and could get a lot of data you never would be able to get.So it would be a better idea to create your own 3d Dauphin model which is GNU and could be given away to other people who then would be interested to help you with the other sort of work. In that case you could count on me to get a member of that project, after the creation of the 3d model has been started successfully.RegardsGeorg "HeliFlyer" EDDW
