November 9, 200619 yr Well flight gear looks great but my frame rates are soooooooooo bad I should not be getting this bad of a frame rate. I run MSFS better. Let me give you some info on what I got. AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 256 MB RAM Also an older NVIDIA video card not sure of model.I know it sucks lol I can
November 10, 200619 yr If you bump up your system ram to 512Mb or 1Gb of RAM that will probably help quite a bit. Also, if you buy a $100 range nvidia card with 128 or 256Mb of memory, that should also run FG pretty well. Also, make sure you have the latest video drivers installed from nvidia.com, that might make a difference. Finally, if you want the ultimate FlightGear computer, check out this link:http://www.flightgear.org/hardwarereq.htmlRegards,Curt.
November 15, 200619 yr 1) make sure that your OpenGL drivers are properly installed2) make sure that other OpenGL software works properly on your system (MSFS uses DirectX and *not* OpenGL)Also, as long as your OpenGL card is properly installed and configured and has got at least 64MB (non-shared) RAM, you should be quite able to run FG with a reasonable framerate, at least as long as you disable most of the more resource-hungry stuff (i.e. 3D clouds, shadows, visibility), also using aircraft with 2D panels, rather than 3D ones, should reduce your GPU load even more. However, you may want to play with the settings to find the right ones for your system. In general it is important to keep in mind that -at least so far- FlightGear is certainly NOT CPU-limited, rather it's mainly the GPU (graphics card) that has to work a lot, in fact I recently succeeded running FlightGear on a dual-500MHZ machine with 1GB RAM and an nvidia card with 128MB @1024x768 with a steady 50-85 fps.
