November 22, 200619 yr I thought I would try FlightGear since it seems to be a really good program and gets good reviews on the net. I am having a problem though getting it to start. It hangs on the splash screen and I have to use Task Manager to kill it.I am running a Dell Lattitude D600 laptop, Windows XP SP-2, ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 video chip, 256 MB Ram, many gigs of space on my hard drive.I set the video to run OpenGL on hardware not software and turned off the 3D clouds in the Wizard. When I start the program, the command screen comes up, the FG Wizard starts and I select an aircraft, a location and then hit Run. The splash screen appears and my hard drive runs and runs but I never get past this point.I tried searching this forum for this, but I was never able to get anything to come back on a search no matter what search key I typed in. I am not sure if this forum is indexed for searching or not, so if this is a repeat of other questions I appologize.
November 24, 200619 yr Can you run the sim from the command line for us? The app name is fgfs. Then post the console output here.
November 28, 200619 yr OK I finally had a minute to try form the command line and I got this error message.Base package check failed...Found version [none] at: FlightGearPlease upgrade to version 0.9.10I will download and reinstall and see what happens.I just let the program installer install to the defaults directories and I found FGFS.exe inc:Program FilesFlightGearbinwin32ThanksThom
November 28, 200619 yr OK the reinstall seems to have done the trick. I am up and running, although with my limited amount of RAM (256 MB) it takes a good 4 minutes to load and load the scenery. Getting a newer laptop soon with 3.2 Ghz cual core CPU, 2 Gb RAM and a good ATI mobility graphics chip. Things should smooth out soon.
