February 3, 200719 yr It might be be rather new but it is useless, apart from the over zealous webbot protection schemes - 2 'type the message in the box' controls then an email confirmation they then need a manual activation by a moderator before you can log in, currently 24 hours and no activation yet!!To be honest I have just about had it with FlightGear, I have been trying to build this on a 64 bit Linux box and have been getting errors with SimGear building, which simgear are not even interested in let alone having me help them solve the problems, now I am using the complied binary which seems to be failing due to my system being to new and I cant get onto the official forum to ask questions or post answers.
February 3, 200719 yr We currently have no accounts awaiting activation at the official forum. So either your account has been approved, or it didn't make it through the system. The sad fact is that before we implemented the second 'type the message in the box' control, I was spending 30 to 40 minutes a day removing porn and drug postings, and deleting accounts set up by spam bots. Since installing it, we've had none. We've also got two more moderators to help things remain clean. We may remove the admin approval of accounts and set it back to user controlled but I want to keep an eye on things on the second captcha first. There are also two mailing lists where you can ask qestions if forumites are unable to help with your installation issues. They can be access via the FlightGear web site.--jeff

February 4, 200719 yr Check first if you are in the memberlist. If not, register again. If yes, contact the administrator for activation.Curtis Olson They took 18 days to activate my account.Pierre
February 4, 200719 yr I believe you may be mistaken, Pierre. You registered at the official forum January 2nd. We didn't make the change to admin approval of accounts until January 20th. Up until that time activation was in the hands of the users. I check for new accounts and approve them at least twice daily. I don't know how often Curt checks. Nobody has had to wait longer than 24 hours for approval. Some considerably less. Since going to admin approval three pending accounts were deleted rather than approved because they had links to porn sites as their home pages. Now, I'm not saying phpbb is free from technical faults. Goodness knows I'm no fan of the system. And if there was a problem and you communicated with Curt to get it resolved, then I'm unaware of it (and there's no reason I would be). But I don't want people to get the impression that the official forum is being ignored and that users are left out in the cold. --jeff
February 4, 200719 yr Hi Jeff,Effectively I registred January 2 but an activation problem happened. The user name was in the memberlist but I can't logged in. This is the message I got when I asked for password:"Sorry, but your password cannot be retrieved because your account is currently inactive. Please contact the forum administrator for more information."At the same time, I saw many new users on the forum with active account. I did'nt receive any email for the forum. Finally, Curt reply an email sent to the forum administrator (the register page refer to Curt as the forum's administrator). After 2 days of communication with me, Curt resolved the problem January 20. I use Windows XP Professional with Windows Firewall always on and Network associate antivirus, On-access Scan always enable with daily update. Technicaly, I don't know what was wrong. I did'nt change any setting on my PC.Sorry if somebody didn't realise this problem and activation delay was an exception.Pierre
February 5, 200719 yr Hi Pierre,No problem. Just as long as the problem gets resolved. That's really what counts.--jeff
