January 19, 200719 yr Have just installed FlightGear Version 0.9.10 on my Windows ME operating system.....am getting a error indication immediately when executing fgfs.exe....the error states as follows:Base package failed. Found version None at : FlightGear. Please upgrade to version 0.9.10.The first installation of FlightGear was done from a CD purchased from Apex Software....I then uninstalled that software and downloaded the FlightGear Version 0.9.10 from that website.....reinstalled that software and am getting the same error. As a 'newbee' I am sure I am missing something.....can anybody tell me what I can do to get flightGear running on a Windows platform.
January 22, 200719 yr As I have not had any response to my specific problem I would like to ask a follow up question.....Are there any FlightGear sim users running FlightGear 0.9.10 on a Windows ME PC platform?? I would expect there are Windows XP users but am I the only one still running Windows ME?? (Linux users need not reply :-))
January 23, 200719 yr >Base package failed. Found version None at : FlightGear. >Please upgrade to version 0.9.10.Your base package did not install properly or is installed at an incorrect location. Base package refers to the folder where aircraft, sceneries, etc. are stored.Feel free to join our mailing list or our offical forum if you need more help. You can find the links to both of these here:http://flightgear.org/mail.html
January 23, 200719 yr I believe the "root" (no pun intended) of the problem is as you state...the base package did not install properly...the installation was done using the default location....everything is in C:Program FilesFlightgearbinwin32 as one would expect....so doesn't figure.I did join the FlightGear Forum and posted my problem statement but so far haven't had any luck with a solution.....is there something better about joining the mailing list?? If so I will try that too.As I have also purchased and installed the Apex CD version of FlightGear and have the same problem I have been in contact with their support people and are awaiting more of their evaluation of the problem.Really hope to get FlightGear to run on my Windows ME platform...would like to see its 'stuff'.Thanks for your response.

January 31, 200719 yr Problem solved.....I noticed from the DOS command log file that the program was aborting when it was trying to open the 'sound file'. In my hardware configuration I was using an NVIDIA onboard sound system....I disabled the onboard sound system and installed a SoundBlaster Live sound card....now the program is up and running. I did not know that FlightGear had a restriction on the type of harware being used for sound but it seems clear that was the problem. Hope this info helps others having start up problems.
