November 21, 200817 yr Total nubbie here:OK so I recently installed Flight Gear 1.0.0 on my Windows XP pro pc. And no problems running the program. The flight dynamics are great loads perfect and fly's wonderfully. I have however unsuccessfully tried about 25 times to follow the directions and download/install the scenery for my area, Seattle Washington (e130s40?) and I can not get anything to happen. Does someone have instruction that are step by step for me to download new scenery and install to the game. This would be a great help. I love this simulation and would like to get flying in my area. Any help or directions would be great.ThankJames
November 22, 200817 yr Last time I checked, Seattle, WA was in the northern, and the western by the way, hemisphere, so the right scenery chunk to download is w130n40

I followed the instructions but still nothing but water. Also, I could never get the map download interface to work. I am running Kubuntu 8.04 and KDE 4.1.
November 23, 200817 yr >Last time I checked, Seattle, WA was in the northern, and the>western by the way, hemisphere, so the right scenery chunk to>download is w130n40Thank you for correcting my text. I did download the correct chunk., w130n40, I was tired when I typed this post and just wrote the wrong file number down.Ok so I am still in the same boat. Now that the file is downloaded, I have tried several times to unpack the file in the correct location, by following the instruction in the official FG manual to no avail.I created the World Scenery file as the instructions stated and then went to the Flight Gear install and uninstall scenery and it is just not there.I am sure that I am doing something wrong. Is there a guide for a newbie like me, something line by line for Windows that I can follow and install the local scenery here in Seattle?Any info would be a great help~J
November 23, 200817 yr I feel your pain. I know I am missing just something small, at least I hope it's something small...;)I am using Windows XP Pro. I have had better luck, somehow, with windows and FG. But can hope to move to a completely Open Source home PC very soon. So let me know if you find a fix for the installing issue we both seem to be having...~J
