Alpha: Colorkey

Featured Replies

Hello folks,I've got a little problem here ... I load a texture in Imagetool, it's in DXT3 format and the status pane says "Alpha: Alpha". Changing the format to any other format causes that to change into "Alpha: Colorkey", and after changing back to DXT3 format it still says "Alpha: Colorkey". The reason why this is a problem is that if I edit the texture in Photoshop and Illustrator and then convert it back to DXT3 in Imagetool I can only get it to say "Alpha: Colorkey", never "Alpha: Alpha", and the result is that the texture doesn't show up in the sim at all (it's becomes completly transparent). This is a problem with a particular texture, and I've never come across it before.Does anyone know how to solve this? And what is a 'colorkey' alpha channel anyway? Thanks, and all the best, Bj

A colourkey alpha channel is usually for night textures(those with _L.bmp extension). It is used to tell fs which lights need to be illuminated all the time and which ones need to be illuminated by the landing lights.

I see, thanks Lionel! This one isn't a night texture though, so wonder what's up with that...

A colorkey alpha in DXT1 format controls the transparency of the bmp. All other bmp formats supports alpha channels. DXT1 does not. The alpha is changed to a colorkey. Thats my experencies.Joe W.
