Project Tupolev Tu-154b2 AutoPilot

Featured Replies

Hello,I'm still trying to get the Tu-154b2 by PT flying correctly ... and that's why I need your help !Could you tell me more about the autopilot ?I managed to get the AT working (during approach, hum), the alt hold mode, speed hold mode, but I've a problem for the HDG (3K) and landing mode.3K : I can't select this button (it isn't illuminated), in the english tutorial (awesome one !), there's written that we don't need to switch the Nav computor On. Then, what switches have I to switch on to get this mode working ?Landing : I managed to get the two needles on the HSI which indicate the way I have to fly, but it isn't coupled with the AP. Once again, what switches have I to switch on to get it working ?Thanks a lot,

Ap

I just tried one more time the automatic approach, and there remain some problems :I switch the right switches ON, and it does not complety follow the FD. And after a certain time, both GS and LOC switches of the AP disconnect alone, and I can't get them working at the same time. Why ???One other question : are there a "no smoke" and "seat belt" switches on the Tu-154 ?Thanks a lot,

>> switch the right switches ON, and it does not complety follow the FD. I must admit, I rarely use it, because it's so much fun to fly it manually. But I just tested it at my home airport and it worked fine.At which intercept angle do you activate the Loc mode and what is your speed and configuration (Flaps, Gear) then ? When exactly do you active the Glideslope mode ?>> And after a certain time, both GS and LOC switches of the AP disconnect alone, and I can't get them working at the same time. That is probably correct, if at a certain point the deviation gets to high, so the AP might not make it (and refuses to reconnect at that point)>> One other question : are there a "no smoke" and "seat belt" switches on the Tu-154 ?These are the three switches 223 (overhead panel). I need to expand it in the manual. From left to right : Fasten seat belts, no smoking and emergency exit lights. There is no sound connected to them.Michael

This is what I tried :I fly at 900m quite far from the airport, heading the rwy course. The AP holds the altitude, I switch the LOC and GS on. Then, I extend the gear and raise the flaps to full position. And the plane operates some corrections on the trajectory. But then, the AP disconnects, and in fact, I'm really high. (with the GS mode on, the planes flies up ... :'( )That's maybe the problem. Or should I intercept the LOC and GS with the landing configuration ?ANd thanks for the switches ont the overhead. On the real Tu-154b2, is there a sound when you switch them off or on ? And when should I do that ? Is this like occident rules ?Thanks a lot for your helpful answers,

The example flight (made by a Tu-154 pilot) suggests a speed of around 290 km/h, Flaps 28 and gear down before the LOC intercept. Then as soon as the Glidepath pointer will approach to center, set Flaps 45.The less configuration changes you do, the smoother it will be.But it should also work as you describe. Check out this video, made to accompany a German language tutorial. It's big (70 MB), but you see how it works.http://www.schwudde.de/tut_tu154_02.wmvMaybe you try the procedure above ?As far as I know, there is no sound connected to the fasten seat belts and no smoking signs in the cockpit. >> Is this like occident rules ?No idea, but probably yes. Is smoking permitted on inner Russian flights ;) !? I don't know.Michael

OK lol thanks a lot !I didn't try the flight example yet, but I'll try the method you describe.I'm downloading the video, do you know other Tu-154 videos ? This plane really passionnates me, it's awesome !And your tutorial is really good ! congratulations !Thanks,***EDIT*** :I found some short videos (previews) there : http://www.maxho.com/video/tu154.html

Yes, the maxho videos are nice. I had ordered the CD a while ago. Not bad, but also a bit chaotic (the camera swings around very rapidly). Would be great if anyone would release a really professional cockpit DVD of the Tu-154.The video above is for FS, made by Sven Goericke to accompany his tutorial/example flight in German. Lot of activity in Germany regarding the plane. And from what I heard, Project Tupolev Tu-154 is not finished yet ;)Do you know any good books about the Tu-154 ? I have a real operating manual in Russian, but that's very hard to read.Michael

Hello,I'm sorry but I can't help you regarding the books, I would be happy too to find one ! You say PT is not finished, what further steps couls they develop ?Thanks,

I've one more problem ;-)I tried an ILS approach.I turned to capture the LOC, and there engaged the GS mode. (to set the landing speed, flaps, etc ...).After I had finished with this stuff, I wanted to disengage the AP to finish the approach manually. (a bit of fun is not too much ! lol). The problem is that I "cleared programm" with the dedicated button, but it was no more possible to get the aircraft up, I tried to disconnect all the AP functions, but I stayed like that. And the pitch was too down, I crashed far from the rwy. Why ???Thanks,

>> but it was no more possible to get the aircraft up, I tried to disconnect all the AP functions, but I stayed like that. And the pitch was too down.Hard to say. I would assume a Center of gravity (CoG) versus stabilizer setting problem. The Tu-154 not only has a very authentic Center of gravity simulation, also a custom elevator trim is integrated to get correct stabilizer handling.Could be your effective elevator range was already eaten up completely ;)In practice, you need to know your exact Center of Gravity. In the panel, you can see it at the bottom of the Checklist panel (Shift-1). Now according to that CoG you need to set your stabilizer to the correct colour code. That also needs to be checked before the approach (and eventually corrected). The manual explains it in detail on page 70-72.There is no need to disconnect all AP functions. Just the two switches 19 and 20 to OFF and you are done with that (and back in manual control). Alternatively, stick movements also disconnect the AP.Regarding your other question, there are maybe more surprises to come for the "B2" ;). And also a Tu-154M is in development. Michael
