Autopilot and joystick buttons

I cant seem to get autopilot engage and Yaw damper engage to work with my joystick. I have the buttons set in the flight simulator program and all other aircraft work great. The dash 8 is the only exception. I tried panel configuration, no joy. I have a Saitek X45 joystick. Keyboard inputs still work (ie. Z for autopilot master and Ctrl+D for yaw damper). It confuses me why the keyboard works and the buttons that I programed in my joystick based of the same functions doesn't work. Other funtions like flaps, landing gear, trim and brakes all work with my joystick just like my other aircraft.

Hm,I'm out on a bit thin ice, but vaguely remember that some a/p functionsare unimpressed with userattempts at remapping them.Me? I simply mouseclick the panelbuttons. It gives me a tad more "thereness" :-)
