Can someone tell me what types of Routes are flown in the real world. Is it Direct GPS or VOR-VOR or what? What determines what type of route is flown? Thanks

Typically IFR flights fly low or high altitude airways, either jet or victor routes. Jet routes are in the flight levels, above 18,000 and victor routes are below 18,000. VOR to VOR are more common for VFR prop flights, but airliners always use the high altitude airways. A typical routing would look something like this.KORD-GIJ-J146-WOOST-J34-BUCKO.JASEN2-KIADThis is from ORD to IAD with J146 and J34 being the two airways along the way. BUCKO.JASEN2 is the STAR JASEN2 arrival with BUCKO transition. Again, these are typically only for airliners and bizjets. Props would use Low altitude airways for their IFR flights and VFR can use more direct or VOR-VOR.Hope this helps,Marc
