S16.27.06 is degrees.minutes.seconds. So, to convert to the floating-point format xx.xxxxxxxx, you need to divide minutes (27 in this case) by 60, and seconds (06 in this case) by 3600 (60x60) and then add the two results to degrees:16 + 27/60 + 06/3600.The S indicates South, which is always negative in any geodetic coordinate system I'm familiar with.Similarly, W067.50.22 would be67 + 50/60 + 22/3600.Here, you have to be aware of your coordinate system. If you want numbers in West Longitude, then this would be a positive value. For East Longitude, make it negative. On a standard North-up map, West longitude is the stuff to the left of England, and East is the stuff to the right.

Oh, is that how it is done? I always thought that there was not so much trouble, "converting" from Judaism to Catholicism :(
