thanks guys, regarding the ils at ontario,as i am new to this i hope you can understand this, i get the hsi nav 1 allright and can line up ok, but i don,t get any miles on the rmi to tell me how far i am from the airport only when i call up the tower do i know, also on autopilot i want to know when i am 8mls out to start my desent i fly into los angeles intl [klax]7L with no trouble ,am i making sense? anyway thanks for the help and i will try easynav, regards dodger uk.

Right, not all ILS beams have DME equipment. You have to use some other tool (is there a VOR/DME on the field?) or estimate. As far as knowing when to descend, if it is a full ILS you should be following the glide slope 'dot' anyway, so you don't need to "judge" when to start your descent.
