AMD Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi all I have just had my computer upgraded from an AMD1800+ to an AMD2.200+ but when I run a cpu test program it says it is running at 1813mhz, is this correct I thought it would have been running much faster than this I dont know a lot about computers so I would appreciate some help all I run is ms2002 and other games many thanks for any help kind regards Mike

yes. This is correct. The AMD 2200+ clock speed is 1.8GHz.

Mike, the 1800+ and 2200+ are not actual clock speeds, but a "PR rating" that AMD uses to compare the performance of their processors to earlier AMD processors (or so they say), but they're really meant to make you think they're equal to a Pentium 4 of the same clock speed as their PR rating. Therefore, an Athlon XP 2200+ should perform about the same as a Pentium 4 2.2GHz (2200MHz), being faster in some situations, and slower in others but basically balancing out to about the same speed.hope this helps, Max Cowgill

Many thanks Max and others this has cleared it up no end as I thought it was running same as the 1800xp I took out so thanks regards to all Mike
