Md-11 Sw Redux Lights

Recommended Posts

Guest David7700

Has anyone installed the SW Redux lights on the MD-11. I'm working on it, but I do not see "strobes" on the list of lights in the aircraft.cfg file. In fact, only about 5 of the numerous external lights are listed in the .cfg file. Where does the aircraft read these lights from? Thanks.David BernhardtKRIC

New FSX models allow the lights and other effects to be attached directly within the model as they are no longer static - in the PMDG 744 or MD-11, the lights and strobes at the wingtips move with the wing as they flex, so they cannot be in a fixed location on the model. For this reason you will not see the lights in the aircraft.cfg file as this older method only allows statically attached (non moving) lights. The only way I have found to use the Redux lights is to replace the PMDG effect files with the Redux lights effects after making a backup of the relevant files (they are named appropriately) in the Effects folder in the main FSX install folder. Copy over the Redux effects you want to use the same name the PMDG model expects. That works well, and I thank PMDG for making their effects unique to the aircraft so this actually works without impacting any other airplane. Shared effect files would be a major problem! What doesn't work well for me is to attach the halo landing light effects to the model, as they are always on. This can likely be fixed by creating a custom module that the effects can be attached to, which I wish I had the time to do :)Etienne

So the landing lights are always on? I tried to add just the taxi and landing lights tonight. I was able to add the SW taxi lights, but not the landing lights. No matter what I did, it did not want to recognize landing lights (the switch would not turn them on). I tried to identify which lights PMDG was using for the landing lights in the effects file and renaming them--I could not identify the correct ones. The SW taxi lights look great on it, though!
