Although there is lots of time to go, there's no time like the present! Year after year right about now, the media indulges in showing us features that summarize the year to date. The cynical among us thing of them as "clip shows" that act as filler material so that the reporters don't have to go out into the cold to snoop for news stories (or into the heat, if you live in tropical or southern hemisphere climes), and to keep Assistant Editors busy compiling video clips, because we all know that Assistant Editors shoulder the greatest burdens in the media world. Hmm, that looks pretentious and an invitation to a million nosey e-mails from the public. I'd better edit that last bit out.
