Somehow FS2002 has got screwed up and all my planes have black smoke coming from the engines at startup. I can't turn it off with the "I" key or any other way that i can see. This happens with all my planes, not just jets. It must have started after installing an addon plane but I don't know which one it is and don't know how to fix the problem. Looks like you never got a response to your question. I had the same experience previously, went to another forum and got the answer. I corrected it by changing the fx_engstrt.fx file in the EFFECTS folder. As I recall I went into the FS2002 disk to get that file, can't remember which disk though.
