Overfly a waypoint. Trick!

Featured Replies

Hi all.I have found a "homemade" way to manually overfly any waypoint. It's no a professional manner but it works. Tested on MD-11.Firstly, sorry about my english, I will try to compensate for my shortage with a pictures secuence.Normally, the enroute navigation systems try to fly-by the points. This method uses a fictitious pattern to force to overfly the point.I will fix here COVUM as example. We just passed YJN, COVUM next (at 220 kts/14000 ft or below), ABCOT next. foto1f.jpgI want to over-fly COVUM, so:PROCEDURE:1-On active flight plan page, select the waypointfoto2yzl.jpg2-Press the HOLD key (forgot the picture, sorry)3-Then simply Press the INSERT key (just do it, no matter L or R pattern, time, speed, distance...that hasn't importance: we never will enter the pattern, it is just to mislead the FMC) foto3axk.jpgAnd then, we will see that on Nav display:foto4idi.jpg4-Finally, when the aforesaid point is the next one to fly (like on the image), we will see in the upper right cornet of screen the EXIT at FIX. Press this key.foto5kje.jpgThe airplane, once passing the point will continue intercepting again the route this way:foto6e.jpgNo VNAV changes affected so far in my tests. If any discrepancy is detected with this method, please report it. Thank you.I hope this information is useful.Antonio.
