May 27, 200917 yr Hi, After trying unsuccessfully to figure out the root of my FS9 instability problems, i.e., FS9 "failed to read from file" type errors (via filemon util and various suggestions by other simmers), I ran a last ditch check on my CPU (Pentium 4 3.00 GHz) running temps and found out the following:Is this a normal operating scenario? I have opened up the computer and all fans are working, or at least they are moving. Should I buy a replacement fan for the CPU? Any ideas? I belive this is the cause of my problems as the FS9 errors have only recently started cropping up (hardware getting old...). Any help would be appreciated. Regards,Macs.P.S.: I am not overclocking the computer.

I purchased the above computer about 4 years ago and really has not given me any trouble till recently. I may end up buying a new one, but wanted to see if I could figure out what is wrong with this one. I have checked almost everything relating to hardware (memory, HD;s, etc.) and everything seems to be in good working order, except for what seem like the CPU temps being a bit too hot. The computer is a SONY VAIO. Thanks again,Macs :)
May 28, 200917 yr Is our Cpu fan and/or tower loaded with dust? Those old P4's do run hot.. what you are seeing is Hyperthread in operation but the CPU load is 100% so 64c @ 100% CPU load is up there but as I recall thats probably about right for a 100% CPU load on those old Prescott slugs. The Intel spec is 67.7c and they give themselves about a 10c Window too to 65c is in the ballpark @ 100% CPURegardless check the tower and make sure its clean and can breatheFS9 "failed to read from file" type errors (via filemon util and various suggestions by other simmers)ahhhhh.. yes, the I was told from other simmers issue.. Why dont you post the exact issue and forget what other simmers told you.

Second, I mentioned I checked the fans for function, so be assured that also checking for a dirty cooling system was top on my list. Third, I did move my computer from what was a somewhat more confined area, but I have not seen a bit of difference in cooling yet. Fourth, perhaps I should have omitted the FS9 error part, and should have only asked about CPU temperatures, which is really what I am interested in for this post. The error part really belongs in another forum. Anyway, thanks for your input, and now I know that my computer (hardware wise) is behaving quite normally; from what I can gather of your reply.regards,Macs :)
May 28, 200917 yr Ok, so you were just worried about temps.. at 100% load those old P4's do run hotter than hades and you are under the MAX Intel spec of 67.7 too so that is not the cause of any errorsAs for filemon.. I could get into that one too.. but I dont have timeIn a nutshell, although someone who REALLY understand the sim it it is a tool that can be used to find issue that really are issues, a lot of what you read from simmers about that is HOGWASH
