May 31, 200917 yr Hello everyone!Started playing FSX with MD-11 recently and I have some questions. Forgive me if the questions are retarded but I am a complete newbie on navigation and setting up the MD-11. (I have flown the tutorial from EGLL to LSZH, that went flawless first time round so I atleast know something)-How can I know which runway the ATC will give me? (Either depart of arrive) I mean, I cant fill in the STAR if I dont know which runway the ATC will give me at my destination airport.-I tried some things with the navigation, make a route in FSX and load it in the plane as CO ROUTE, but that never seems to line up with the correct STAR even though I use the charts. one time i was flying from London (EGLL) to Schiphol (EHAM) and when I was nearby EHAM the route told me to almost fly back to London to get into the correct STAR. What am I doing wrong?-Same goes for FSbuild, when I build a route and try to fill in the waypoints or VIA in the FMC it always says that the waypoint is not in the database. I must do something completly wrong I gues, but what? :(Hope you guys can help me out a bit and I sure hope my questions are not that stupid haha. Thanks in advance!Tiemen Bos
May 31, 200917 yr -How can I know which runway the ATC will give me? (Either depart of arrive) I mean, I cant fill in the STAR if I dont know which runway the ATC will give me at my destination airport. Not sure how it is on the other side of the pond, but in the US, some artcc sites on vatusa give general rules for which runways are used when, and of course, the direction of the wind is a good indicator which runway(s) are going to be used. I usually view all the STARS through airnav or something as you can get an idea of which one you will probably be using. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've always been allowed to use the star I put for the flight plan.I usually don't put the whole flightplan into the FMC because there is always the possibilty of having to use a different one, and I'd rather do it once and know it's going to be what's used, so I usually enter the waypoints up til the STAR. if no ATC is on as I'm approaching this, I go by wind direction for the runway and direction I'm traveling for the star. If ATC is on, I ask which runway is in use and then enter the star and runway into the FMC-I tried some things with the navigation, make a route in FSX and load it in the plane as CO ROUTE, but that never seems to line up with the correct STAR even though I use the charts. one time i was flying from London (EGLL) to Schiphol (EHAM) and when I was nearby EHAM the route told me to almost fly back to London to get into the correct STAR. I must do something completly wrong I guess, but what? :(I think the only ways to have the most-up-to-date nav info is to use a service such as navigraph or the like (as least as up-to-date as fsim navigation can be, as I still think it's one cycle off) or to create the waypoints yourself with the proper lat/long info...but I haven't ever tried that.I'm not an expert in anything so maybe others can explain better, but I hope this helps. chris romaniello
June 1, 200917 yr Managed to setup a flightplan from EGLL to EHAM and everything went flawless! Beginning to understand how it works with the VIA and TO :) It costed me some hours last weekend and today but it well worth it hehe!Tiemen
