Vista / S-Video (TV)

Featured Replies

I'm about to purchase a CDU from Flight Deck Solutions. Peter mentioned the LCD is s-video on these pro-m cdus. (I wonder if they are still the PSONE screens?)Anyhow, that being said, I picked up a Nvidia 8400 GS card (I prefer Nvidia when possible) and, while I don't have the CDU yet, have tried this card in my new flight sim rig (Which runs Vista 64) using the old 7" TFT active matrix LCD that I used in my older cessna sim as a GPS screen. (WHich worked fine)Well, it doesn't work.I read a bazillion posts, that first said the 8400 GS had problems with Vista. Then it was that Nvidia is not supporting TV anymore, or that their control panel in the latest drivers doesn't work well with TV's and Vista anymore. Then I found a registry hack to get you back to the old Nvidia control panel. That didn't work. After all that, I found more information about a whole boat load of issues with Vista and Svideo, not only on a ton of different Nvdia cards but also on ATI cards as well.Does anyone have any feedback or recommendation on a good way to do svideo out in Vista? Naturally before I spend 1k on a CDU I need to know I can get it to actually work. Peter said he tests them on his laptop, so he can't really give me any recommendation on particular hardware to make his CDU's work. All help is greatly appreciated, thank you!Matt Riggins

Just wanted to send a quick update. After completely frustrated with S-Video, I used an old (I've had this cable for years) 7 pin svideo to composite cable (Composite is the yellow/rca video cable) to connect to the screen that way, and it worked. Why Vista/Nvidia won't do S-video I dunno. Maybe they feel that with HDMI now, who'd want to do s-video? Well, FLIGHT SIMMERS still do with our 5" screens sometimes! But according to Peter's email, the FDS cdu will do composite video (as well as svideo) so I'm hopeful it'll work. I'm waiting for his email back. (While the guy is in Paris!! Peter is awsome!!)
