Station Database Management #2

Featured Replies

Jim, did more digging around and might have found a solution. If you go to Earlton Ontario, CYXR on the map screen, you will see that there are 2 stations there (CYXR-CZXR), one on top of the other. CYXR is the "real" station, not interpolated. The underlying station is CZXR, and after doing the edits to CYXR to disable it, CZXR shows up as an Advanced Interpolated Station, and guess what, the weather is fine / depicted correctly. CYXR is like CYQA, 9sm visibility, and prior to doing the edits I was sitting in solid overcast. CZXR, Advanced Interpolation, is 10sm, and the skies were partly cloudy as the Advanced Interpolated metar indicated. So, the question is, can CYQA have an Advanced Interpolation Station added, say CZQA. I could test it at my end if I knew how to add one. Here is a screen shot of Earlton with CZXR interpolated weather, notice CYXR is gone, and as the screen shot shows, the depiction is perfect.Glen

Hi,No we can't add physical stations into FS.Did you try the CYBN station? Thanks,

Hi Jim,No I haven't, and to be honest, that's not going to help with permanent overcast skies at CYQA. I guess I don't have a clue how this program works, because if you go to the internet, you can't get a metar report for CZXR either, ASA is generating/interpolating data for it. The only reporting station at Earlton is CYXR. I was hoping that an interpolated station like CZXR could be added beside CYQA somehow, with 10sm visibility, oh well, it was a try. I know, CDH1 is close to CYQA, but it doesn't seem to affect it.Unrelated,If you look about 20 mi north east of CYYB you will see a station CWBA, that should be Barrage Temiscamingue Quebec, mine reads Banff Alberta, which is also CWBA, but in this location it is Barrage Temiscamingue, confused yet.Airport: TEMISCAMINQUE, CANADATime: 29-06-2009 02:13:26 (UTC)ICAO: CWBA (IATA: N/A)Banff, Alta., Canada (CWBA) 51-11N 115-34W 1384MJun 28, 2009 - 10:00 PM EDT / 2009.06.29 0200 UTCWind: from the SSW (210 degrees) at 3 MPH (3 KT):0Temperature: 62.6 F (17.0 C)Dew Point: 59.9 F (15.5 C)Relative Humidity: 90%ob: CWBA 290200Z AUTO 21003KT 17/16 RMK AO1 T01700155cycle: 2Glen

Hi,All I can say is that the CYBN station cleared up the visibility at CYQA.

Hi Jim,Ok, I should just do as I'm told, I disabled CYBN. If you would be so kind as to share your magic and or explain why a station, CYBN, that's 57mi away from CYQA, would have anything to do with CYQA, when CYQA is still locked to CDH1 for its weather. The only thing I see, is we disabled the only other NON interpolated station within 70mi of CYQA, all remaining stations are interpolated except CYPO Peterborough, at 70mi. Why was CYBN affecting CYQA, if it was? Anyways, thanks, I finally climbed out of my bowl of soup.Glenp.s. After the hours I spent on this, some reasonably logical explanation would be nice, if you can, again thanks. CYQA - Broken skies

Hi,What ASA is doing is it looks for the weather in the four quadrants that surround CYQA. CDH1 happens to be the closest, so that is what is reported on the Report screen, but CYBN is the next closest and has an influence also. This interpolation is new to me also in ASA so it will take some time for me to figure things out. Everyone needs to remember that I am not a programmer and learn much of this as we go along. Yes, I can ask Damian questions and such and I have learned a great deal from him directly, but many times I need to dig into the options just as a user would. Thanks!

Hi Jim,Thank you for your help, your suggestion worked and in the end that's all that matters, I was just curious.Glen
