Question re: Watter Effects Setting in FSX.

Featured Replies

Just a little stupid confusion...I normally fly with the setting at Low 2x to lessen the impact. However, after I purchased Tongass Fjords, I decided to crank it up to max. No real problems. My confusion is around the "mid" and "high" setttings: I don't see any difference between those two and "max". So, what should I be seeing (or not see) at those two settings? Thanks!Shane

The difference between 2x low, mid, high and max is in the quality of the water reflections. However, some would argue that at max the water is unrealistically reflective given the amplitude of the wave action. The difference between max and high is so little anyway that you can run at high and see little difference from the max setting. The best way of seeing the difference is to sit on the water surface itself and change the settings, taking a screenshot each time. For realistic water, you can't beat REX, perhaps further tweaked with FSWC.Cheers,Noel.

The biggest difference is between 1x High and 2x Low. The 2X doubles the rendering passes your graphics card needs to make to draw the frame. The second pass is a shader pass, which controls the reflectivity of the water. If memory serves, 2x Low reflects the sun and moon, 2x Med reflects Low + land, and 2x High reflects Med + clouds. It's been a long time since I have played with those settings, though. I usually prefer 1x High, but sometimes turn on 2X high for screenshots.Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM
